Flexibility and Powerlifting

Hey all, just one question really:

I am very flexible, for example, at 305 pounds i could touch my palms on the floor, and now at 285 i can even bend my elbows a bit when i put my palms down, and i can almost hit a split.
is my good flexibility negatively affecting my squat max?

i dont think flexabilty would ever be considered bad? If anything it should help. some people cant get past parrallel squating. Others tend to fall foward or backward. Some weigh to much cant get into the right postion for deadlifts so no i think flexabilty is a good thing...

Jim Wender started simplfying his routine and working on conditioning and loosing weight to become more flexable and hes setting PRs

I don't think it will be a big problem. You will just have to make sure to stay really tight in the hole when you SQ.

yeah i always thought flexibility was good, but ive noticed the strongest guys all tend to be tight as hell. My last training partner is 50 pounds lighter than me, and can squat as much if not a little more than me, and he could barely touch the top of his feet.
He told me several times 'you gotta be tight in the right places' because it helps when you are in the bucket during a squat. Plus the powerlifters ive seen on TV and on youtube arnt exactly the most flexible guys around.

being too tight means you have muscular imbalances..... Like say if your tight across your shoulders and chest it more than likely means your back is weak, b/c the muscles on the posterior side are not pulling the muscles on your anterior side into the right anatomical position

I honestly don't know how I feel about flexibility. I've known some strong guys and they weren't exactly doing the splits. Personally, I'm not a flexible guy at all. My knuckles dang near drag the ground when I walk, and I can't touch my toes. Not really sure it hinders me or helps my in my lifting though. As long as I can get into position to squat, deadlift, and bench, I'm not really worried about it. :)
