Bodybuilder Using Cancer Drugs To Stop Growing Breasts

London, England (AHN) - It seems bodybuilders using steroids are also taking a breast cancer drug to stop their breasts from growing.

According to findings from the University of Glamorgan, steroids boost testosterone levels in a male body, and if those levels grow too high, the body converts them into estrogen, and breasts grow.

However, the use of a cancer fighting drug, tamoxifen, has been seen to keep breast growth in check.

The University found that out of 200 gym users, 22 percent to the drug to stop breast growth. Furthermore, they found 11 percent of bodybuilders take human chorionic gonadotrophin to stimulate the testes, which if not attended to would wither from steroid use.

Dr. Kat Arney, cancer information officer at Cancer Research UK, explains, "Tamoxifen is a potent and effective drug for treating breast cancer. Like all medication it can have side effects, so it should not be used without medical supervision."

"Bodybuilders who take tamoxifen or other inappropriate prescription drugs are gambling with their health."
