Good. Knee-jerk Democrats cry to raise taxes every chance they get. It doesnt matter how wisely the current money they have is being spent, only that the government can take more from the private sector. The 35W bridge that I used to drive over daily could have been rebuilt 5 times for the prices of the minneapolis light rail that nobody uses.

It took a referendum in 2006 in Minnesota for all of tax revenue generated by motor vehicles to fund transportation. And only about half of that goes towards roads.

you should see what "transportation funding" actually goes for. for instance
- $891,600 to create a walking trail to connect two harbors to its highschool.
- $2,500,000 Duluth, Munger Trail Extension: Extending the Munger Trail to connect with the Lakewalk Trail in Duluth.
-$2,700,000 for recreation trails connecting parts of the iron range

heck ill just link you to some of the projects that oberstar wants just for his district.

http://oberstar.house.gov/index.asp?Type=B_PR&SEC={0C671A79-B6DE-4227-9728-1E403083281F}&DE={4BDC66E5-E559-43F6-9AA7-6CD22E9EF770}

and as far as the light rail... it cost us 715.3 million to build and Annual budgeted operating cost is $19.85 million. all of that for annual revenues of $7.2 million. so it loses 12million in operation costs per year...

http://www.metrotransit.org/rail/facts.asp

really it shouldnt take bush and his harvard mba to realize that we dont need anymore taxes.

Gets it...yeah, that was a real novel idea. Tell people they won't have to pay a tax, that's always a gamble. Especially when gas is at $3.50. :toofunny:

Also, gas taxes don't go petro companies now do they?
you should probably read the article.

"Bush rejects raising gas tax for now"

This is what is known as conditioning.
First the concept is introduced.
Then it is dismissed
Then it is reintroduced in a different format

You will pay when-

"President Bush dismissed Thursday raising the federal gasoline tax to repair the nation’s bridges ...
at least until Congress changes the way it spends highway money."

This is a classic version of the problem, re-action solution paradigm.

You will pay this tax eventually guaren-f*ckin' teed !

Wow. BDS sufferes never cease to amaze me!

Americans are dying everyday so that 10x the number wont be dead when we have to go into a highly armed terrorist state in place of Iraq in 20 years. A terrorist state of Iraq would be devastating for the middle east, the world, and the U.S. And that is exactly what will happen the minute we leave. Why else do you think every person that hates America wants us out of Iraq. I am not saying the inverse is true, but anyone that wants us to cut and run is very delusional about what the consequences will be.

BTW what does your random raving left wing rant have to do with the topic?

I had a friend over there and troops dont want our sympathy, only our support. Its funny that people who just plain think everything America does is bad hide under the disguise of supporting the troops.

Keep your rants for your next hippy protest.

BTW Walker TX Ranger owns you.

Apparently the raving left winger doesnt get sarcastic humor. Ever see Conan Obrien with the walker tx ranger lever? You are probobly too busy watching propaganda films.

If I was a soldier i would do my duty. I am an engineer and I am not the type of person that belongs in the military. You telling me to go to Iraq because I support keeping troops there is like me telling you to give all your money away because you love socialist societies, or make your girl to have an abortion since I'm sure you care more about terrorist "rights" in Gitmo than you do innocent unborn children.

Personally, I'm against the fairness docrine, but I can understand the logic behind it. Right-wing radicals have a such a sheep-like mentality it's scary. Bobo introduced you to the term BDS just weeks ago, and you've been parroting it ever since. You've even assigned it to TripDog after just one short statement.

Tear down a country with an illegal war and then claim that we need to stay there to repair it. A long occupation of Iraq is the goal, not the problem.

Come on show at least a little intelligence and back off this statement just a step, damn !

I am not saying the inverse is true, but anyone that wants us to cut and run is very delusional about what the consequences will be. Just when I didn't think you could say anything less intelligent, you prove me wrong again, Just the syntax of your sentence show amazingly poor comprehension of the post !

BTW what does your random raving left wing rant have to do with the topic?

I'll help you out with this because I care, American troops in Iraq = corporate control of the oil flow = manipulated gas prices
equals people paying more for less.
How much were you paying for gas 5 years ago?

How many soldiers were dying a month in 2002?

get it now !

Why don't you write a letter to your lord and savior GWB, and see if he needs you more for your "engineering skills" or as a member of the military.

The answer may surprise you!

I have created terms like Michael Mooreon, but I try to not be insulting. BDS is a real syndrome so its the politically correct term. The fact of the matter is O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh arent programming anyone, they are just reinforcing their audiences thoughts with facts that the overwhelmingly left wing media chooses to leave out. I am against all types of Stalinist censorship, but if you were truly for fairness you would be for the censorship of left wing media. You arent for any type of fairness though, only being a fascist and limiting speech and thoughts which you dont agree with. I guess liberals have given up debating since they cant win.

Tear down a country with an illegal war and then claim that we need to stay there to repair it. A long occupation of Iraq is the goal, not the problem.

What makes this war illegal again? Enforcing UN resolutions that were being ignored is illegal now? Going against the wishes of a corrupt and bribed UN is illegal? Acting on the intelligence information nearly every far left democrat believed is a crime now? Even many of the countries that opposed the Iraqi invasion shared the same intelligence information that said Saddam was actively persuing WMD's.
The information below is something the "fairness" doctirine would bury in the sand as deep as the head of a Michael Mooreon fringe democrat.

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line." --President Bill Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program." --President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

"Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face." --Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983." --Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." Letter to President Clinton, signed by: -- Democratic Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others, Oct. 9, 1998

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process." -Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies." -- Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999

"There is no doubt that ... Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies." Letter to President Bush, Signed by: -- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), and others, Dec 5, 2001

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and th! e means of delivering them." -- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country." -- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power." -- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." -- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..." -- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." -- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction." -- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do" -- Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons." -- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction." -- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..." -- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003
