McCain jumps into presidential race

John McCain formally announced what everyone knew - that he was running to be top dog. I thought this was kind of funny after his comments/singing about Iran last week!

McCain sings "bombs" to Iran
Thu Apr 19, 2007 3:46PM EDT
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican 2008 presidential hopeful John McCain crooned the words "Bomb Iran" to a Beach Boys' tune in joking response to a question about any possible U.S. attack over Tehran's suspected nuclear weapons program.

"That old Beach Boys song, Bomb Iran ... bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb," the Vietnam War veteran warbled softly to the band's "Barbara Ann" when he was asked when the United States would send an "airmail message" to Iran.

The singing performance during a campaign stop on Wednesday in South Carolina drew chuckles from the audience and has already been viewed almost 11,000 times on the Internet video sharing site YouTube after being posted on Thursday.

Campaign spokesman Matt David said the question was asked somewhat in jest and that the Arizona senator was adding some levity to the discussion.

It actually is kind of funny - I laughed anyway. I doubt it played well with his detractors who claim he has a mental disability though and is often erratic in his behavior.
Here it is:

Not really, we've already seen that a number of times. George HW Bush was a fighter pilot in WWII. He was shot down over the Pacific IIRC. There's absolutely no doubts about his military experience. He was stuck in some seriously bad **** over there and came out on top.

He still raised taxes and even then couldn't balance the budget.

Don't overlook the fact that, militarily, GHWB was pretty damn on the money. He raised the coalition for the first Gulf War and then chose NOT to invade Iraq based on the recommendations of his military and intelligence agencies. GHWB was also overlord at the CIA at one time, so he knew a little about intelligence.

GHWB was shut down by bad economic policies, such as raising taxes (after we read his lips). It is funny how GWB has the economy running smooth, almost on autopilot, and he is being criticized for his military decisions. If you took the best of the two - perfection.

Also, GHWB was not a charismatic leader, he was **** Cheney-ish, almost a non-performer. He ran against the most charismatic democrat since Kennedy in Clinton, and got taken. I can't think of any Republican in recent times except Reagan who would have taken Clinton, and they may have been close before Reagan's first term.

To sum up, GHWB did a fine job as commander in chief of our military, he did not do as well with the economy. A military man may be what this country needs right now as we face many potential threats, but, as we saw with Reagan, a president with lots of charisma and a strong team can go far facing multiple hostile threats. It will be a good campaign season for sure.
