Its not easy but in a democracy you have to take chances and trust people's good intentions, to do otherwise leads to fascism.
I have to interject here... We're not living in a democracy... This is in fact a Representitive Republic. Ok, point made. lol

But alas, life is not that simple.

Hey, OJ Simpson got off too. Did you learn anything from that?

Here is a summarized lesson:

1. That the guilty goes free, is nothing new in our legal system. Sometimes, even the guilty gets off because of insufficient proof or technicality. Sometimes the guilty gets off because the jury ****s up. That does not mean they are innocent. It just means that they are found not guilty in a legal sense. It doesn't mean they didn't commit the crime. Just that the system fails to convict them.

2. There are bizillion cases that are never indicted because the prosecution decided that they didn't have enough evidence to win the trial. That does not mean they are innocent.

3. Fighting terrorism use LE methods is self defeating. Warfare must be deal with warfare. Using LE methods would just mean a monumental waste of not only resources, but also loss of innocent lives. But I doubt that does not bother you.

4. In this particular case, it is a perfect example of everything I have posted above.

So, what else is new?

You have to be joking. You are turning this in to something it is not. You have also decided the men are guilty, before it even came close to trial. You (nor I) know all the facts, yet you are certain they are terrorists. That is stereotyping, racial profiling, or whatever you want to call it my friend.

Like it or not this is America. We have a judicial system in place that is supposed to be run so that everyone gets a fair shake. You seem to have a problem with this. If it is ok to arrest those two for buying cell phones, then it is ok for them to arrest you and I for something without evidence. That is why it is so important. You don't change the rules on a case by case basis. Why are you so insistant on ignoring the fact that their WAS NOT SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE FOR THE CHARGES? To compare this case to OJ is just a joke. There was no crime commited here. But I guess you know it all so must be privy to information that the rest of us aren't.

Oh wait, you did read the part that the men were found to have no links to any terrorist group right? But that is just another excuse right?

Jarhead, l am going to stop arguing with you for the simple reason that I would like to follow JayHawk's advice and try to avoid getting into a situation where it becomes me attacking someone's intelligence. I would have little qualm in going into that, as I have demonstrated that many times, but I don't think the Head Crown would be too happy that I keep pissing off his readership.

Here is some facts about the Ohio case:

"..... the two men initially gave deputies different names than appeared on their IDs. The men also initially said they were buying phones for a relative's construction business, then changed the story when deputies asked for contact information, Washington County Prosecutor James Schneider Schneider said.

Schneider said his office and federal authorities don't believe "the defendants pose an imminent threat at this time."

But he said the investigation remains open and he could still present evidence to a grand jury to pursue terrorism-related charges.

The FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security sent bulletins early this year warning police departments nationwide to be alert for bulk purchase of prepaid TracFones, which could be resold to finance terrorism.

Within days of the Ohio arrests, three Palestinian-American men from Texas were charged in Michigan after nearly 1,000 cell phones were found in a van they were driving.

In the Michigan case, the FBI said Monday that it had no indication that the men had any ties to known terrorist groups. Local prosecutors, however, were standing by the charges.

Prosecutors have not said what they believe the three men intended to do with the phones, though officials have said cell phones can be used as detonators and the Coast Guard increased its patrols of the five-mile-long Mackinac Bridge after the arrests....."

Fine. Poopyhead. Doh! Too late! I have a feeling by the time we were done they would have the terrorism problem solved anyway.

Yes , that is the major flaw with our governmentsl structure. It was drawn up as a Democratic republic or representative democracy.

The power was to lie with the people who elect representatives to run the government. This works pretty well as most people are too busy to run the country while trying to make a living.

The "flaw" is the two party system that has dominated the last 130 years or so...It is possible to infiltrate the party ranks with "agents" that have the same agenda. They then create moot points(gay marriage, healthcare, taxes) as platform differences that give the illusion of choice. So no matter who you pick, the agenda is served(rich guys) before the greater good of the people.(us guys)

I don't feel that the government necessarily caters to the "rich". I feel like they cater to themselves. When this nation was founded the government made up 4-6% of the economy. Well, given inflation (bullsh*t) the government now makes up a whopping 44% of the pie. I may be mistaken, but that just doesn't make sense. Well, that doesn't make sense in my opinion. I mean, if the country belongs to the people, why is the government so big? Anyway, I believe that's a topic better left for another post. Just throwin' it out there.

Our capitalistic society/economy invaded and took over the political system. Imagine if a law was passed prohibiting politicians from engaging or doing business with any special interest groups? Imagine that there was one pool of money that all candidates had to share equally during elections? Imagine if obvious pork barrel projects funded by taxpayer money were illegal? What would happen?

Answer: we'd have a much better and efficient government that caters to the voters not special interest groups. We'd also have a ton of taxpayer money to fix social security, fix the public school system, give tax credits for college tuition, supplement the health care system so everyone had access to minimal health care needs, it would help fix so many of our nations ills it's not even funny!

BTW - I do believe that America has the best economic/political system on the planet.....even with all it's faults......take a look at any other country and the avg. standard of living......no matter how you slice it, the USA is second to none........imagine how far we could go as a people if we cut all the BS and fixed what has been broken along the way since 1776? Answer: Utopia
