Its a Republic, which is obvious. The founders knew that the common people would screw it up with special interest groups. The Republic is supposed to solve the problem of special interests and the tyranny of the majority, according to James Madison.

Some of the stuff there is hilarious

Belarus republic in name, although in fact a dictatorship

Libya Jamahiriya (a state of the masses) in theory, governed by the populace through local councils; in fact, a military dictatorship
I guess Lukashenko and Khaddafi (sp?) are still under the US's skin.

IS that so? Is that what you think why the political systems in those countries are described as such?

So, what kind of systems they actually have over in Belarus and Libya then?

The Us government was formed as a democratic republic or a representative democracy. Which is a government that is formed by the consent of the governed and administrated by the duly elected. The states where initially given power to exercise power in all areas not governed by the constitution. The federal government was ment to be a template for inter state disputes. This has been the grey area that has been used by the the unscrupulous to gain power and create a constitutional abberant "federal republic", that dictates authority back to local governments. Although it may seem a recent phenomena, this constitutional aberration began almost as soon as the constitution was signed and some may argue; it is what makes the USA an enduring nation via the living documentation of the constitution. However it all lynches on the character of the leaders and policy makers......every great plan has its flaw!

I told you. We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week. But all the decision of that officer have to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting. By a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs. But by a two-thirds majority in the case of more majority.
