    Loving the "peaceful" immigration protests...

Well, living in So. Cal., we're at the heart of the illegal alien invasion. Mostly illegal mexicans. So, needless to say, we are getting quite a few "protests".

The news is ranting and raving about how the protests are so "peaceful", and how the illegal immigrants are going about this, etc.

Well, first hand my family experienced these 'peaceful' protests today. Down in Oceanside, Ca, there was a 'peaceful' protest (police assisted) of a few thousand people ranting viva Mexico, waving mexican flags, and you guessed it...yelling "**** you white people!".

    Yeah...welcome to America, *******s.

My wife is a LEGAL immigrant and she is so freaking ticked off at the illegals she wants to start a anti rally lol

She wants to move to TX to be a volunteer minuteman. She said Americans just do NOT understand how this country is going to be ruined. She saw it happen to her country over the past 30 years and said the US is next unless we get our act together and stop it.

I see what's gonna happen. Hell, I did a big ass research paper on Mexican history and Mexican politics about a year and a half ago. To put it simply, you have to dig REEEAAAAL DEEP to find something to be proud of about that countries history. the problem is, illegal immigrants aren't forced to assimilate and they bring that failing culture here...its NOT good.

I guess Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna was a pretty "interesting" guy...but that's about all I could say about that

Well I am all for building the fences but they will STILL get in.

I truely believe the solution is to get Mexico's oil industry going. They have enough oil so every person in Mexico could have free health care, free schooling, good jobs etc etc.

Then they would say SCREW going to the US we want to stay here.

This is a direct result of the US govt turning a blind eye to the problem for many many years. Now we have 12 million people here demanding this and that and both parties lack the nuts to do anything significant about it.

Now 12 million people are playing the race card, the entitlement card and every other guilt trip tactic there ever was in order to get their way. I used to be somewhat sympathetic to their plight but the message coming from these rallies is a bad one..and I think I am not alone here. They really shot themselves in the foot.

Perhaps if the protestors made some demands of their own government then there would not be the need to infiltrate another country and feel as though they are treated like "second class citizens". But it's riskier to do that so it's better to break our laws and make audacious demands of us thus taking advantage of our system.

    AGREE 100%

Maybe not legally and MAYBE not even morally but DEFINITLY in our own interest if the US had helped Mexico become a more financially successful country 20 + years ago we would not be in this situation now.

Bad thing is the president Fox is bad enough but it looks like now one of the contenders for replacing him in the next election is being financed by Chavez from Venezuela who is VERY critical of the US. If he gets into office things will be even worse for the US.

I agree Crowler, instead of financially dominating Mexico, we could ave been more helpful. Even then I have my doubts because the level of corruption in their govt is sickening.

This corruption is Mexico's chief weakness and until they change that image investors will be hesitant to do anything on a grand scale in Mexico..so that hurts everyone. This is especially frustrating because in the resource sense, Mexico has it all...tons of potential workers and lots of untapped resources.

In the run up to Iraq, I even said I'd be way more supportive of taking over Mexico and rebuilding them than Iraq. We have a lot more in common and a lot at stake with Mexico if you think about it.

This is sad indeed. There are many responsible illegal immigrants that are just trying to enjoy a higher quality of life and provide a more promising future for their children. Unfortunately, the majority of people going are probably wanna-be Cholos (gangsters) and ****ing idiots. This hits real close to home for me and the level of stupidity people reach never ceases to surprise me.

I wish they would deport every single person saying "**** White People". Idiots.

This problem needs to be dealt with ASAP before sh!t gets out of control and we are mandated to speak Spanish. You see folks, ILLEGAL immigration is a crime, why should we give rights to criminals ? I've said it before and I'll say it again, militarize the border, it at least gives the message that we ain't going to take it no more, this would force Mexico to develop economically. It would be a very discouraging to see criminals get favorable treatment, why do we have to be pussies on this issue ? What about the message this sends to people who want to immigrate legally ? I don't know about you guys but I don't let people cut in front of the line and this is what we would basically be allowing. The majority of Mexicans I know are also against illegal Mexican immigration so you know IT'S a problem

BTW, I've heard the argument from hippies that goes something like "dude, we're a country that was created by immigrants so why wouldn't you give them citizenship, rights, etc" BUT we didn't have an immigration crisis and the country was expanding so there was a need to populate other lands, that is not the case today. If we let all Mexicans in what's next, let all the Chinese in ? That would be great, I'd have to be tri-lingual !

You don't realize how true this ALREADY is.

Do you believe there actually is a school district in which it is now a rule that ALL principles have to learn Spanish. They have 3 years, any who do not will lose their jobs.

WTF, that is an outrage ! Since I work in education and athletics I'd be really friggin pissed if I worked my ass off for administration credentials only to be told that I now have to learn Spanish. Is this district by any chance near the Texas & Mexico border ?

It was very interesting when on that same TV program a representative for Mexican Americans said that program was VERY bad for the Mexican immigrants as it sent a message that they did NOT have to learn English as Americans would learn Spanish.

I just did a Yahoo search here it is. REALLY hard to believe it is true isn't it?

If I remember right there's already a couple of towns along the southern border that mandate laws and town meetings be held in Spanish.

My solution is more straight forward: annex Mexico. Tear the government down, divide the country up into one or more US states. If everyone there wants to be in American so badly, seems it'd be a lot easier to bring America to them instead of them coming here. We'd get a nice increase to our population, a nice tax base to add to our system so our programs, which will still implode eventually, could last a bit longer. Plus, we'd get the oil.

Honestly, so many foreigners spend so much time criticizing the US and claiming we are so horrible, maybe it's time we started acting that way to see how much they'd like being right for once.

Being of hispanic origin, I am disgusted with the protests I see going on. My family is several generations removed from our country of origin and came to this country becoming documented migrant workers. Not one of my current family members is supportive of these protests and find them quite embarassing. I live in the dfw area and protests have been going on over the past few days at dallas city hall. Its bad enough that these people are supporting ILLEGAL immigration, most of them have no idea what the specifics of the issues are. This is not a race issue as many of them believe it is about BREAKING THE LAW. The minute an ILLEGAL immigrant manifests in this country they are telling everyone that U.S. laws do not apply to us. How can anyone support that? Unfortunatly for me, I get alot of "you must be upset about this immigration law" "are you're parents going to be deported" comments directed toward me.
To sum it all up these people are viewed as the hispanic version of "white trash".

DAMN how can just about all of us be on the same page. What the heck is Bush thinking.

HEY maybe there will be an amnisty thing for AS usage. You just come forward and admit you were doing something illegal and they give you a users permit for 4 years.

By the way CDB I LIKE the annex Mexico. Probably the Mexicans would say NO we want your free health care, free schooling etc etc etc BUT we want our heritage.

I saw a statistic that said WELL over half the population wants to live in the US. YIKES

that's pretty much what my Latino friends say as well, this is something that's pissing off Mexican-Americans as much as Americans of all other groups. The breason this is made into a race is because it puts policy makers in a delicate situation since they'll be labeled racists by people who run against them in the future and politicians are too concerned with getting re-elected instead of serving the best interests of their citizens.

Our economy could also be affected by excessive illegal immigration. Too many workers with not enough jobs means average salaries do not increase for the rest of us. We gotta have a process where people can here legally so they pay taxes, have rights, and are encouraged to ;earn English.

That thing in Dallas about educators is a disaster, it's not like qualified teachers are ouot there lining up for jobs so why do this crap ? This type of crap nis another reason why many teachers either switch to the private sector or pursue other careers after a while

Just imagine what would happen if we illegally lived in Mexico, then started protesting and making demands of that govt...we'd never be heard from again.

I totally understand your frustration Red, it's not about race for me. If Norway and Ireland illegally immigrated here and started making demands..I'd happily boot my distant ancestors out (well maybe the hot Norweigan girls could stay..but everyone else GTFO).

I also understand what you are saying about these being the lowest social-economic-status people coming here. They're peasants to use an unflattering word, completely uneducated and they are being used as foot soldiers for these protest by people who should know better..people who have socialism as agenda and that's not gonna fly in the country.

I truly hope for a peaceful resolution to this situation..one that benefits the migrant worker and allows them to work here for lengths of time with the dignity of being a valued guest rather than a criminal. But it IS a two way street. They are not in a position to make demands nor will this country be pressured or intimidated via use of the race card. They must drop this entitlement attitude if they are to coexist here peacefully...otherwise, I can see things becoming very very ugly and the racist factions of this country will have a field day. I do not want that.

This is another example of how this country is turning into bizzaro land. Neither the democrats or republicans will do any thing about it. Democrats see future voters who depend on the government to survive. Republicans see cheap labor. On top of the you have the politically correct thought police ready to label anyone who disagrees a bigot, a xenophobe, and a racist. What it boils down to is anyone in favor of illegal aliens wants an open boarder. In recent polls 60% of Americans want something to be done, yet our elected officials will do nothing about it. Unfortunately it's going to take another 9-11 or worse that started with a few OTMs walking over the Mexican boarder.

VG- I agree. Yeah, they'll be voters someday..but neither party can conform to their overall philosophies..fiscally liberal and extremely socially conservative. That's not how I want this country to roll.

There is so much money being wasted each day just to accomodate these "Illegals".

We print dual languaged signs, machines and look at the schools....... We pay for healthcare, then we accept their children as natives.

We give them freaking licenses to drive???? WTF?

Their inability to recognize American culture and adapt to it should not be our cost and problem.

The wall must be built. We are spending far more without it.

I'm the same Kwyck..that's why I bring it up. I don't want to live in a uptight conservative socialist situation. Mostly, I want to be left alone and not have to pay a fortune for this right.

    They do. Get kicking.

There's a healthy population of illegal Irish here in New York. Unfortunately they own or work in all the best bars, so kicking them out is not an option. I'd happily kick any illegal Dutch people out of the US, but apparently they're too stoned to fly here, so my ancestry is moderately safe for now.

Not necessarily. I'm for totally open borders, but only once all property has been privatized. After all the door to my house is open to all in general, they just need to keep in mind I may be a "home defense" type of guy. In our current state of affairs it would take as big a government mechanism to close the borders as it would to keep them open, so the issue boils down to cultural protection and principle I think.

Good discussion. It is amazing that many of us feel similarly about this, or maybe it's not so amazing at all.

I'm a fiscally conservative social ibertarian on many issues, but I believe in borders and sensible legislation. The outrage of LEGAL immigrants to this country says it all, and I wish their (true) voices were heard in the media (not the stirred-up politicized illegal rallying embraced by the pandering politicians scared to death to be tagged as "racist" unless they express total accomodation for illegals).

I'm a SoCal resident too, so it hits home pretty hard.

On one hand, I totally understand the desire of people to come to this country and pursue a better life (and I'd do the same). The great fact is that it should be necessarry to do so within the parameters of the US laws. And it is incumbent on this country to enforce those laws.

And the peaceful protests continue...I've not heard about what is really going on on the news, however.

Put it this way...Oceanside, today, in short: mexican's (mostly high school age, but middle and grade school as well with parents, driving with trashed american flags and waving mexican flags, yelling **** you white people and chating "mexico, mexico", and there was swat and life-flight around there...however, this is all i see inthe news (disgusting...) http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2006...1906125114.txt

I'm pissed off...i swear i'm about to start carrying a bat in my car, I don't see this getting better. Its entirely a racist move on their part...nothing less than absolutely racist, anti-white/american.

This isn't about 'a better life' to many people, its similar to the palestinians and their view of the israelis. Hell, I've already heard (I think it was la razza) making that parallel.

edit; says something about 200 students, lol...understatement of the year?

F*ckin' Cholos. Shut your traps and get back to work (and school). I think it's funny that these kids think that they should protest about being treated unfairly when these kids parents pay no taxes, get free health care and other necessities. And they say "My parents break their backs to put food on the table." Reality check, most parents do that, not just yours. Doesn't garner any sympathy from me, sorry.

I was listening to the radio on the way to work a few days ago and they mentioned a survey that a good number of Americans viewed Mexicans as a honest, hard-working people. When the sides were changed, Mexicans viewed Americans as racists who wish to exploit Mexicans. They said, "I think we should do that. They already think we're doing that, might as well live up to their expectations."
