Maybe we should suit them up and send them to Iraq then?In other words, you're as likely to drown as get shot. And morons on the road who DUI or aggressively speed, cut lanes and tailgate are the ones killing your friends and family. They are the single biggest risk to the innocent.
I dont know where I stand on the Iraq issue - but it just doesnt seem right to compare someone dying in war to someone getting killed falling accidentally down the stairs. I think one reason the guys dying in war is viewed as more tragic is that most of them are young and full of life, with bright futures, etc. Im sure that figure (2,300) will be quite a bit larger after all is said and done, You also neglect to mention the 15,000+ troops who are coming home injured, maimed and/or disfigured. They may still be alive, but Im sure life is a lot different without a hand.

no.. death sucks.. no matter what.. and i am not posting this to then debate if the war is right or wrong.. just posting numbers to put things in some sort of sight to understand where we are ..... but.. running a ground war for 3 years and having a body count of 2,300 is impressive. Point taken about those people with out arms, legs etc.. but in any other war.. those injuries would have spelled death..
the numbers came from Pew Research Center for the Peoples and the Press
Revolutionary War 4,435
War of 1812 2,260
Mexican War 13,283
Civil War 624,511
Spanish-American War 2,446
World War 1 116,516
World War 2 405,399
Korean War 36,516
Vietnam War 58,152
TOTAL American deaths in wars listed above 1,263,518
Single Battle Deaths
Gettysburg 54,807
Pearl Harbor 4,498
D-Day 4,900
Oh yeah I totally agree with you there - it is impressive. But, IMO, 2300 American's dead is 2300 too many - but it is a lot lower than you would expect for the type of conflict, no doubt about that.no.. death sucks.. no matter what.. and i am not posting this to then debate if the war is right or wrong.. just posting numbers to put things in some sort of sight to understand where we are ..... but.. running a ground war for 3 years and having a body count of 2,300 is impressive.
True, and with technology advancing at a record pace hopefully soon those injuries wont mean a life of disfigurement or disability. Have you seen the reports about the artificial 'muscles', or how they've been able to deep freeze dogs and bring them back to life uneffected?Point taken about those people with out arms, legs etc.. but in any other war.. those injuries would have spelled death..

I hope this isn't some neocon circle jerk so they can sleep at night knowing that since more people die falling down, its okay for people to die in Iraq.
why do you have to make it about parties lol.. always have to turn it to parties.. so what it is in the political thread.. but its just facts man.. and the Pew Research Center for the Peoples and the Press has a pretty socialist ideology...
