Fox News: Sarah Palin - Worse Than You Thought.

Fox News reported Wednesday evening that Sarah Palin's lack of knowledge on some topics also strained relations with the McCain campaign. Carl Cameron reported that campaign sources told him Palin had resisted coaching before her faltering Katie Couric interviews; did not understand that Africa was a continent rather than a country; and could not name the three nations that are part of the North American Free Trade Agreement -- the United States, Canada and Mexico.

For weeks, the McCain-Palin campaign has dealt with the fallout from the disclosure that the Republican National Committee was billed for $150,000 in wardrobe purchases for the Palin family -- a discovery that was widely ridiculed and undercut Palin's hockey mom appeal.

Several McCain aides said they had recently discovered that Palin's traveling staff had used personal credit cards to spend as much as $20,000 to $30,000 on additional wardrobe items for Palin after news broke about the purchases.

Palin and her press aides could not be reached for comment.
    -------------------------------------------------------------

Think about what this means, and what almost happened to this country.
Frankly, the people who knew this about her and were still directly responsible for "vetting" her, putting her on the ticket, attempting to foist this idiot on the American people, and protecting her while there was still a chance (however theoretical) that she could become Vice President and possibly President of the United States ought to be arrested and tried for treason.

We used to think that having debates was an adequate way of gauging performance for our candidates, even though the realities of television have turned them into staged dog and pony shows these days. But even just as a measure of whether a candidate could mouth correct-ish, truthy-sounding answers, they still retained some value -- even as Palin failed even that ridiculously dumbed-down test. We were willing to live with the faked-for-television debate framework because it was always premised on the assumption that the candidates shared with most Americans a common base of cultural and political knowledge that any competent person could automatically be credited with, simply by virtue of having successfully grown to adulthood as an American, and presumably having gone through some sort of educational process, formal or otherwise.

Now it turns out that we would have been better off evaluating at least our Vice Presidential candidates by putting them on Jeopardy! Or in this case, even The Tonight Show's "Jaywalking" segment would have been sufficient.

Here we were trying to evaluate Palin's ability to explain the Republican ticket's economic plans, when she may never even have known how many pennies were in a dollar, or who the faces on the bills were. We jumped right past basic grammar school evaluations, because the gravity of the office McCain was contending for is one that has always caused Americans to automatically assume that the candidates would have enough respect to actually prepare to take on that mantle before challenging for the seat, and because we've always assumed that as much as we disagreed with the other party, it could at least be trusted to act in its own best interest by nominating a ticket that wouldn't be disqualified on its face, or be laughed out of the country for lack of even the most basic knowledge about who we are and what we're about as a country. Including such trivia as, say, the names of the countries we border.

This is why the GOP continues to fail, and has been marginalized into a regional party.

John McCain should never live this down.

So who or what should we believe? Who are the ones to be blamed? If Palin is indeed this stupid on world affairs, why did staffers stand by and watch and push for her to become the next VP maybe President? I'm glad they feel the need to publicly find a scape goat but I think they are pushing for the wrong person to be it.

If they openly admit to putting their values and beliefs on the sideline just to win then what else would they be guilty of? Maybe trying to pass the buck on the failing of McCain being elected?

    Keep piling on!

Obama won. He's the president now. Get over it. I have. Is anybody saying Geraldine Ferraro was the best person for the job?

Now that Obama is President, I hope he does a hell of a great job! I mean, I know if he ****s things up then I get ****ed in the process and I don't know about you guys but i would rather have a good/better life over being able to say 'i told you so'.

To be honest my biggest complaint over Obama was his following. An intelligent friend of mine actually said " All hail Obama! Those who doubted us, yes we can!" All hail??? Really, how can anyone follow a man so mindlessly in such a short amount of time. No one said all hail King and that man proved himself with action and following through with his beliefs. Obama may prove to be a great man/president but he hasn't yet and that bothers me.

to be honest, i think this scares me more than anything. to this she was so close to being president, and then we find out this. and i wouldnt say palin should be the only one to blame. the whole mccain campaign was poorly run IMO. had mccain run a more positive, honest campaign, and picked a more qualified vp, i would have found myself either a) voting for mccain, or b) having an extremely tough time coming down on one side or the other.

and i wouldnt say i told you so, more of a hey, we tried to warn you guys haha. either way probably still sounds like an ******* and thats not how i want to be.

and i think we all face tough times ahead no matter what stage of life were in. all we can do is hope obama has a solid cabinet, and trust that they guide in him the best way possible.

Do you really believe all the stuff being said about Palin? Do people really believe she is as dumb as she's being made out to be?

As was already reported at CNN (along with Fox later), the majority of these are untrue. These staffers are basically former campaign employees for Romney, Bush, and many other former Republican candidates (who worked for McCain out of necessity) who fear Palin as a threat in 2012.

Its a power vacuum, as was the case for Dems in 2000.

Seeing as how Romney is the New-Model Quayle, it's hard to stop laughing: it's too much like a room full of blondes playing Russian Roulette w/ semi-auto pistol....

Strike out? McCain barely broke 40% in the polls before Palin. He got 46.2% of the vote and given the environment, that is a pretty remarkable feat.

His campaign was dead before her...she gave him a chance....Sept 15th and a 500 point drop in the DOW erased that chance.

Agreed; though in the sense that she was a good campaign choice, and not a good VP choice overall. Had Palin not been on the ticket, the popular vote would have most likely been much more slanted in Obama's favor.

Much more. Look at all the Congressional races. You almost have a filibuster proof Congress based solely on the environment. When Al Franken gets a recount, that should tell you something. Al Franken? AL FRANKEN? We get what we deserve.

To have a Republican get 46.2% of the vote in this environment is truly remarkable. He shouldn't have received 40%.

As a Obama supporter I will readily admit that Sarah Palin had a positive effect on John McCain's campaign. She got their base excited and was very easy to look at. I just don't think she was McCains first choice and I also think there was a clashing of egos staff and otherwise as she was drawing crowds that were 5 times as large as McCain. After a lost election, someone has to go under the bus, she was elected. I don't however at this point see her being a major player in 2012

Exactly. Going into the RNC, most polls (unreliable as they may be) had Obama absolutely dominating.

This is going to sound messed up, but there is a core facet of this country's population that would love a repeat of JFK. I actually think that this threat will help to moderate his actions.

A repeat of JFK in what sense, pissing off the mob (actually that was Bobby), failing to kill Castro or the simple fact that he was shot, please clarify. The fact is if that was a factor in his mind at all, he would not have run.

Hence my last statement. I'm pretty sure with the climate that continued to escalate from the primary and especially during the last 8-10 weeks, the thought had to be in the minds of all involved. If fear was was going to guide him, there would have been no campaign plain and simple. Fear will not guide him now either.

I am referring to his socialist leanings. Given the current power structure that he just "displaced", not to mention to myriad subgroups that find it hard to handle the idea of an african-american president, if the guy tries to go too far in his policies (especially with a democratically dominated congress) then assassination would be (theoretically) a given.

I don't think it is fear, but might make him think twice, which might just be enough to keep him from going too far.

The myriad subgroups will hate and wish him ill even if he's the best thing since sliced bread. I think as with any president who wishes to be successful, he will try to keep abreast of the pulse of the mainstream and act accordingly. I honestly don't think that assassination will be a second thought however, security will.

    Hence my comments around here.

    Sarah the ditz.

Bush and Palin ruined any chance McCain had in the 2008 election.

    Period.

I dont need the VP of this country talking to me like I am 5 and winking at me.

    She's an idiot.

FWIW. I have family in Alaska, they did not speak well of her. Many of them voted for her, but knew she was not worthy of VP.

But even just as a measure of whether a candidate could mouth correct-ish, truthy-sounding answers, they still retained some value -- even as Palin failed even that ridiculously dumbed-down test.

All of this is in my view, is John McCain and his staffers trying to cover their own rear ends. He ran a piss pore campaign, and could not get his own thoughts across when it counted. He used the term "friends" just about as much as bush uses the term "hard work" when their brains lock up and loose their train of thought. John was too afraid to "attack" Obama with the truth of his past and who he really is, in fear of being called a racist for criticizing him. Joe the plumber an everyday working American got McCain's points across better than he ever could have and the list goes on and on.

Sarah Palin was not the reason for his loss or downfall, and I do not believe these stories that are coming out about her either. I will admit I have a biased view, I am a republican, and I live in Alaska. These things have not been seen or heard of from her at all, since she has been here in office. I do not think it is a coincidence that they are now all of the sudden being flooded to the media to try and downplay McCain's blundering campaign. Again though this is only one persons opinion.

    Period.

I dont need the VP of this country talking to me like I am 5 and winking at me.

    She's an idiot.

FWIW. I have family in Alaska, they did not speak well of her. Many of them voted for her, but knew she was not worthy of VP.

Just to keep things "fair and balanced" if you are going to call Sarah a ditz, Biden has to be right there with her. Look at his continuous foot in mouth statements. He on many occasions showed us why he only received 9% of the vote in the democrat primaries. I do not feel very comfortable right now knowing that Obama is the next president of the US, and I do not agree with everything that Bush has done either, but I damn sure know that I would rather have Bush or even Obama any day of the week over Biden.

I think his Secret Service agents have done a brilliant job protecting him. We never hear about all the extra work those guys put in around election time. I'm sure they had even more protection than normal on Obama.

I think you misunderstand me. I am not saying hse is soley responsible, not by any means. His handling of the economic crisis in September did him in, however her performances in many interviews were less than stellar, and she did not play the attack dog that well, as the public just was not interested in the "paling around with terrorists" angle.

I think McCain wins, if he exposed Obama's tax plan. He needed to explain that EVERYBODY making over 50k will get a substantial tax increase once the Bush tax cuts expired in 2010. That would of sunk in at the debates.

Apparently he was unaware that FDR wasn't president when the stock market crashed in 1929 and that only experimental TV sets were in use at that time.

Actually, in him getting 46.2% of the vote in this environment meant that people were interested. He didn't get above 40% BEFORE the credit crisis hit. His handling had nothing to do with it...the perception it was Republicans that caused the housing bubble, and the mythical deregulation did him in. Nothing he said or did would have changed that. You don't change public perception built up over the last 4 years in 4 weeks. Palin gave him a shot he never would have had....and in that case, it wasn't anywhere near a strike out...it was a success on a losing team.

Yeah, FDR talking on TV in 1929. Real genius at work.

Seems the blinders are still on.
