Could I ever compete in bodybuilding?

So I've been posting at AM for a little while, but I haven't really shown myself except in the small avatar picture; but I want to give some background on my personal transformation first.

I used to be faaaat. In high school I got up to 225. I'm only 5'7. In my senior year I lost about 40 lbs. Once I got to college, I kept losing weight. I got down to 155 at my lowest but was not lifting weights much at the time, just a lot of running. I looked too thin. I looked sick.

I decided that lifting weights was for me. I always liked lifting when i played football but I got out of it for some reason in favor of running (thinking it would get me ripped). Eventually I "bulked" up to around 175 from my 155 and it only took a few months. Then I cut down about 8-10 lbs and I'll show those pictures here.

Since then I have changed quite a bit. I am definitely not as lean now, as I am in these pics, but I plan to get back to that leanness, only with more overall muscle mass. I purposely don't show my lower abs in the front-shot photo, because well, I've got fat on them. It's been one of my biggest problems for a long time and it's why I'm turning to the Anabolic Diet.

I was running and lifting too much (opposing activities) and probably not eating enough for my activity level, which put me into starvation mode and made it impossible to lose any of that last fat reserve. I feel that the Anabolic Diet will suite me well, since genetically I just do not handle carbs well (especially being a former fat boy).

So, I'm 185 right now, with a goal of leaning to 175 with the Anabolic Diet, and then going on the bulking phase of the Anabolic Diet and basically rebuild myself from the ground-up using a totally new dietary approach. I have always prescribed to a high protein, low-moderate carb, low-moderate fat diet and I feel that my big problem is A) protein is the dominate macro when it should be fat (to become fat adapted) or B) not enough overall calories to facilitate the kind of fat burning that I should/should have experienced considering my activity levels.

So, I'll just spill it: I've always wanted to step on a bodybuilding stage or at least be CAPABLE of entering a competition. Even if I could get to 6% body fat, that would feel like a great accomplishment and I wouldn't even have to compete, it'd just be something that I did that I could be proud of. I also want to be able to help others achieve their physique goals someday...

Anyway, let me know what you think. Picture me with 30 lbs added to these pics, and less body fat.

Could I compete?

PS - I am 21 years old (almost 22).

Sorry if the pics are a little over-exposed (LOL, just a little).

Oh, I suppose I should show my wheels? They're proportionate and I have pretty large quads. Calves blow. Genes can be gay.

most of us never will compete lets not lie to ourselves. I know you did some cycle can't rememebr reading. may be wrong. I would say no you got awhile if you plan on it, everyone can compete though. I know i could but never will. I know my physique would be far from competetors, and i really don't have the time to perfect it.

my .2 cents.
PS- You ever get feedback on that Epi situation you were asking about?

You can accomplish anything you set your mind to. If you are serious about it, you will get there. That being said, I honestly feel you have a good amount of *natural* gains to make before you start adding anabolics. I know that is probably NOT what you wanted to hear, but it is true, and you will appriciate your gains and learn more, learn to "listen" to your body that way, and then when you do need AAS to get to that next level, the rest of you will be all dialed in. For now though, eat, sleep, and lift, and let your motivation fuel you.

ofcourse you can, if you work hard enough at it.
i graduated from high school at 6 ft 2 in. and only 130 lbs. i started lifting around that time and everyone said ill never be anything more than a runner. within 3 years i was up to 210 and the first year was all natural without any supps at all. just eating right and training hard. second year i started taking supps. now im 23 and weigh in at 235 at about 10 % bf.
my point is everyone said i couldnt do it. people actualy laughed at me in the gym. now when i run into old friends they dont recognize me. im glad i stuck with it. if you stick with it you can do anything you want. i know that sounds gay, like something you tell a kid, but its true.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I do think that I have the mass-building capability, since I've weighed as much as 220 and I wasn't SLOPPY but I did have probably 20% body fat (which some might call sloppy), but mind you, I was in 10th grade.

I'm only 5'7 and weigh a decent-looking 185 right now.

Yes, I used Havoc for 4 weeks. That helped and made me feel good, but maybe I didn't need to do that yet...but I figured I'd experiment with myself since I'm 21 and the stuff is legal.

I'm going to keep working hard, and i'll show pics again after this fat-loss phase is over.

I'm trying to basically rebuild myself from the ground-up. Get the fat off and then try to add much cleaner muscle without the fat, using the Anabolic Diet (and not steroids).

We'll see how it goes.

You could always enter Palo altos body challenge contest. It would help drive you and you get to use their products. You win money if you win. Check out the scivation board. they all are competing and they are very supportive guys. Good diet and supp knowledge. They also have a training program you can do with them.

Of course you could compete in bodybuilding. Anybody that says you can't compete or get big is just negative. Just spend the next few years really building a big base of muscle mass, and then once you think you've accumulated enough mass, diet down for a show. I'm not saying you'll win the show, but you could definitely do a local show someday.

That's what I mean.
You might not even make the night show. And if you don't use gear, there is a very good chance you'll never win a local show either.
But, Go for it.

I go to the John Sherman show just about every year in Houston, and DAMN some of the guys that compete are huge, PLUS THE AMATURE FITNESS & FIGURE COMPETITORS ARE SMOKING HOTT.

Can't say that. Sounds to me like he's only been lifting a few months, so who is to tell?

And, to the original poster, if you want to step on stage as a bodybuilder you could do it. But, it doesn't mean you'll "look" like a bodybuilder  Lots of local guys do shows when they just arent' anywhere near head-turning in size or condition.

The only thing that will tell you whether or not you can look good on stage is time and dedication.

HAVOC is a full-fledged steroid, just an FYI. Just because it hasn't been made illegal yet (added to the "list" on the DSHEA rather) doesn't mean its not a steroid and that its not effective. There are at least 4 anabolic androgenic steroids being sold over the counter right now.

Note: I made the distinction "anabolic androgeneic steroid" because there are tons of different steroids. Vitamin D, Estrogen, DHEA, etc. Those are all steroids, just not the ones you're thinking of that are classified as Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS).

I don't agree that you don't have the ability to build the mass. 185 at 5'7'' 21 yrs old is not bad at all. It sounds like your committed. That can go along way and although everybody is diffrent and their is no way to tell how far you can go but it wouldn't surprise me if you hit 220lbs with low bf in a 2-3 years.

Appreciate the comment. Time will tell, and in fact I know time will tell, because I am going to put in the time (and proper diet).
