What do you mean what you will come out at?

I thought the Dexa scan was used test for measuring bone mineral density.

Did you stop taking your multi vit and calcium yesterday?

Yes.

It is used for that, it is also used to accurately assess body composition. It is second to none in this aspect.

Ha. No.

The DEXA is primarily used to measure bone density, along with a host of other scans, but BF% happens to be a part of that host. All BF measurements have their short comings, but the DEXA is held as a gold standard, even above hydrostatic for BF accuracy.

It can also measure body water content. My guess is 14% fat.

Woot!!

9% so says DEXA.

I had a scan done a year ago, here's what has changed since then:
  • Dropped 17 pounds of fat
  • Gained 12.7 pounds of lean mass
  • Dropped from 17.8 - 9% BF
Yeah, I feel good about that :D

so do I win with an 8% guess or does Somewhatgifted win with a 10% guess? I believe The Price is Right gives it to whoever is closest beneath the right number.

Haha.. Yeah, legs and ass are quite lean, apparently.. Wow.. No junk in my trunk :(

Thanks a lot man!!

The test was free yes, one of my professors runs the FIT (fitness institute of texas) lab at my university, he made DEXA available to everyone who wanted it done in his class. I jumped on that shit like crazy.

how can insurance cover that? there is no real (medical) reason to get one of these scans right, that would warrant them covering it?

DEXA's are fairly popular with the elderly. As Ozark mentioned, bone density, perhaps arthritic diagnosis. The BF% reading is a side note, but it happens to be an incredibly accurate note.

Like his bone density? :biglaugh:

I think it reads things like subcutaneuous vs visceral fats, organ size, etc.... I've always wanted to tell someone "your axial skeleton sucks, bro. Do some weight bearing exercises and stop being a pu$$y"

Thats what I feel like telling some of the douches at my gym with calves and thighs the size of my arms.

Doing the same damn arm workouts every single day I see them.

Yep, it seems that I hold pretty much ALL of my subcutaneous fat in my abdomen/love handles.. Sad sad day.. This means that for my abs to really really show, I'll probably have to get down to 6% or so.. Yikes.

The thing that worked best for me is/was a Paleo-style diet. No grains, no dairy, etc...

As far as training, full body, 3x weekly, fasted, made the most impact.
