Certain Antibiotics = Anti-Anabolic?

I was prescribed an antibiotic about 4 months ago for some shoulder acne that was bugging me. I was prescribed Bactrim DS, and before that I was taking Minocycline for a short time that didn't seem to do much. I am 98% clear now, but I worry that these antibiotics I am ingesting are having an anti-anabolic effect on my body. I read threw the antibiotic brief and it touched on some possible decline of protein synthesis with certain antibiotics. I am just curious as it seems that my gains have been coming much slower ever since I've been on antibiotics, but this could also be my own paranoid delusions.

So, bottom line. Could Batcrim DS have a possible anti-anabolic effect if taken over long expanses of time? It seems like it would be bad on the digestive system, since it is a particularly strong antibiotic. I have been eating yogurt and taking digestive enzymes to help combat this. I plan to go the doctor anyways in a couple weeks, to discuss this but I am curious to hear some input from some board members. I am also disturbed at what my immune system might be like after these antibiotics...

90% of the time, it's not a big problem if your still lifting regularly and especially if your using an anabolic and getting a high protein diet. Your doing the right thing ingesting the yogurt in between AB doses. Maintaining friendly flora is the crucial part IMO. I do month long cycles of doxycycline (a minocycline derivative) several times a year usually, great for acne control and much kinder than tetacycline.

You should avoid anti biotics. Accutane even, if small doses and a short cycle would be better for acne.

Antibiotics caused my roommate to have kidney failure. I used them for acne and had major problems with shin splints, and connective tissue injuries, as well as severe dizziness, and I believe my immune system was in serious trouble after using them for a period of about 2 years off and on.

The anti anabolic part I believe is a very real side effect. The only problem is that the time you are on Accutane, you will notice even worse side effects, but once you go off it, you will not have any problems.

Either way you are screwed unless you don't mind the acne.
