So for the past three or so weeks, I feel that I have not been digesting food as well as I should be. I never feel hungry, and I am dropping cals as we speak. I am now 600 cals below maintenance and exercising hard. But the thing is, my stomach is bloated, and I feel full at all times.

For a while there, I had felt good. The food I had put in my stomach had that burn to it in my gut. I felt and knew it was being used for fuel instantaneously. But now I feel like it just sits there.

I flipflopped my routine around for a bit, and jumped onto a bulk-style diet for a couple weeks a while back, as I feared I was losing too much strength. And now I'm back in for the cut. But I feel like I'm still on the bulk. Something is not right. I just got done with some intense exercise and I'm not hungry. But I'm gonna eat right now anyways. Got no better idea.

Can anyone help me with this? IT SUCKS. I suspect it's a slowed metabolism. How can I speed it back up. I mean, I am exercising well and eating 6 small meals a day; following that classic protocol. Did I jack myself up somehow?

Thanks, y'all.

P.S.- still doing good with my exercise, but my body feels like the food slowly being burned, and it feels like there is some still inside my gut whenever I put more in. It's no good. Can we do something about this, y'all? I would highly appreciate it.

Here's what/how I eat.

2500 cals
300g protein
350g carbs
30g fat

M1:50g pro/50g carbs (1.5 scoops whey, 2/3 cup oats, mixed berries)

M2: 50g pro/50g carbs (chili beans with 6 oz chicken)

M3: 40g pro/40g carbs (1 serving brown rice, 6 oz chicken)

PRE: 25g pro/30g carbs (1 scoop whey, 2/3 cup oats)
POST:25g pro/40g carbs (1 scoop whey, dextrose)

M4:50g pro/40g carbs (8 oz chicken, 1 serving rice, veggies)

M5:30g pro/20g fat (3 eggs, casein shake)

M6:20g pro/10g fat (cottage cheese)

*and on downdays, i cycle with a lowered carb diet with raised fats.

Constipated?
in a way, actually, yeah. i go 2-4 times a day, but i don't feel like it comes out with the same....gusto....it used to. maybe i should get back onto a bit if milled flax. i used to consume that bigtime and i would have real productive movements. they were frequent, quick, and large. my toilet was like a snakepit. but who knows, maybe all that flax was just pushing the food out of me before it had the chance to fully be used. confused!

i just feel like i'm not burning food very well. i feel like when i eat food, there's still some in there sitting from before.

i eat actual meals 2-3 hours apart from one another. heck, i would eat them 5 hours apart from one another, but there's not enough time in the day, unless i eat 3 big meals a day, which is no good.

i want to just eat when i'm hungry, but if that's only twice a day, that would be bad!

i realized another thing. my schedule has sucked lately. sometimes i eat my first meal as late as noon or noon-thirty. that makes me have to slam my meals. i think i need a better schedule. if i had four more hours, would it help more?

lol TMI....
Have you been drinking more whey shakes lately?
I've noticed, now that I need more than one shake a day,
that whey actually makes me feel slow all around, slower digestion, tad lethargic for a while afterwards, etc. Thinking I need to just drink egg whites or something for a while and see if there's a change.

Any stats?

who can give valid info regarding your intake without knowing your height, weight, bodyfat...?

BTW, your math is wrong.

300g protein= 1200kcal
350g carbs= 1400kcal
30g fat= 270kcal
total kcal= 2870kcal

whoop-d! i meant 250g carbs. i stand at 5'10''; 207 lbs.; likely to be now at 14-15% BF.

i think i figured out my problem. i would like to see if anyone can agree. i figured out that i'm simply waking too late, which is forcing me to eat my meals 2 hours apart. i have a slower metabolism (i've always put on weight, not quality weight, but weight, easily). and then, on top of that, i take in 25% of my daily cals within 2 hours before bedtime. i don't think that's the greatest idea either. and last but not least, i have slowed down with my fruit/veggie eating and it's been replaced with grains/beans more. i thought that the more complex carbs i ate, the more my body'd work to process them, the more fiber, and the more sustained energy i'd have. but i feel like sheeeeeeeeyat!

so, i may have to start waking earlier. and eating more the way i feel good doing it. can y'all please throw me a bone on this? i never ask for much, y'all!

I've felt that way before and a tsp of flax before each meal for a few days worked wonders. It 'coats' your stomach when taken before eating and makes for smoother, more complete :dump: so to speak. I felt 500% better in a couple days. It may be worth a shot.

Well you can always "Purge" your system, and get a fresh start.

Try some Senna 6-8 tabs per day for two days.
Drink TONS of water.
Then start a good prebiotic to reestablish your intestinal flora. Something like GUT health would work well for you.
Fiber it up my friend.

i'm gonna address all posts within this one. by the way, thanks for the input, guys!!!!! i love this place.

my water intake is 1 gallon per day.
i get my 9 servings of fruits/veggies a day usually, but lately, that may be lacking. i may only be getting 6 servings a day now.
so i think i can go back to adding more veggies and fruits. i think an apple, some celery stalks, and a bit more sweet potato might be beneficial. those are my three FAVORITE produce items. my fiber is good-to-high as standards go, but i think what kind of foods i eat affect my movements. i noticed i felt a lot better at times when i had milled flax/more fibrous fruits in my diet. perhaps i need them again in more abundance.

*****OVERALL, i think i will do all of the above. i think i'll start with a purge, so to speak. i have everything i need for that. then, i'll add in some milled flax, replace some grains with a couple small apples (apples are good to my insides), eat more veggies again, and up my water. i admit i have slacked on the water consumption. i used to drink it like a banshee at ALL TIMES. but now i'll sometimes go 3 or so hours without any; i mainly now just drink it during training. i think i can re-up my water drinkage and that'll help as well. flushing out the ol' pipes.

i guess i'll just have to apply myself here. thanks for the input, guys! and i'll update on how everything.....comes out.....

that reminds me of a movie i once saw called "Cold Mountain." there was a character of a reverend played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, and he said in this whiny voice, "I used to be able to set my watch by my bowels. But now....I got turds stacked up inside like lil' twigs." hhahahahahah! that's what i hear in my head about 10 times a day.

i'm gonna fix it!

Dont for get the prebiotics like GUT helth... or hell... go buy yourself a six pack of Dannon ACTVIA. This is done to correct your insteinal flora after you purge

I didn't know banshees drank unusually high amounts of water. I hear about the way they wail and scream, but never about how much they drink. :rasp:

Ive had extremely similar problems except with the addition of a few more symptoms such as loss of saliva when eating, sometimes stomach pains and small lil red bumps that pop up on my back, shoulders, and arms. after seeing 3 doctors, 1 gi specialist, and 1 allergy specialist on the issue ive somehow developed allergies to a whole plethora of foods, mainly being nuts, seeds, vegetables, and fruits. after removing most of the foods ive identified my condition has improved although i still have the symptoms on a daily basis, just not as often throughout the day, i could still be allergic to milk or wheat, unsure of it. i also take digestive enzymes before most of my meals and a probiotic a few times each day and that has greatly helped. i highly suggest the addition of the digestive enzymes before you eat a meal.

You ever get tested for Celiac's disease (gluten intolerance), I could be wrong but it fits a lot of the symptoms.

yes twice, first time it was negative, second time it was inconclusive. i said wtf? inconclusive? along with milk and soy and i know im allergic to soy. apparantly if you have it sometimes it can be hard to detect. as advanced as our science is today one thing they are not good at treating and detecting too well are food allergies. i do have some of the symptoms though. i am gonna get tested again and for more allergies in a couple months.

LatsRUs. Your symptoms sound similar to those that I had about 10 years ago. They tested me for everything under the sun and everything was "inconclusive." Finally, I just started cutting stuff out of my diet on my own. In the end, it turned out to be milk allergy. Even minor amounts in whey protein would cause me to flare up. There is nothing worse than trying to eat and having a dry freaking mouth!

Good questions. I did try wheat at first, but my symptoms did not resolve. Yes, I had the little bumps, too, and my doctor had no idea what they were. When I initially stopped the dairy it took a while for the symptoms to resolve because it took me a while to eliminate secondary sources of dairy from my diet. I'd say after a month or so I started to notice a difference. My hypothesis was confirmed when my son was born. He ended up having a dairy allergy, so it is likely that I have had sensitivity to it my whole life, but it just got worse with time.

hey all! things have been much better! i've realized that i'd been eating way too many carbs, way too many complex ones at that. i'd have gobs of grains just sitting. but since i went back to higher fats and lowered carbs, i've been feeling a whole lot better.

It seems like to me that your confusing your body with different energy sources. When you eat a lot of carbs and little fat your body becomes a carb burning machine and the enzymes to digest carbs and utilize them become dominant. Then when suddenly swith to low carb high fat, your body's like WTF?????? it's not prepared to handle the increased fat intake and lowered carb intake.

So you have to give it time to switch and become acustomed to the change. But when you constantly change energy sources, your constantly fugging up your body processes. The bloating most likely comes from complex carbs and it's fiber content sitting in you stomach and fermenting since you recently switched from fat the carb digesting enzymes are low.

I've had similar problems. After some research I found that most food starches cause gas (bloating) except for brown rice, so I removed all but brown rice and it almost immediately fixed the problem. The other adjustment was the addition of one serving of yogurt in the morning with breakfast. I figured I needed intestinal flora.

I hope that helps.

holy crap, mayn! my moms and grams got that! that's what they said to me, too. but hey all, i'm quite alright now. i've adjusted and found that i feel all around better without much dairy and using beans as my main fuel source. i combine the beans with a bit of rice to make it complete. it's been nice so far. no issues as of late. and i plan on keeping it that way. thank you everyone for your input.

***i'd go to the doc, but i ain't got much $/no insurance. but there could be a chance that i have that.

yea Manimalia. I had the same problem. Eating my biggest meal before bed was a big mistake for me. Apples and beans are also my friends.

Something else I find extremely helpful are probiotics. You can get em dirt cheap at GNC. I kind of like the idea of millions of bacteria helping me digest all my food and get bigger, haha.

yup, its genetic. i bet 20$ you have it... i bet if you cut gluten out of your diet totally (wheat, barley, uncertified oats, etc) you would feel a world of difference.

you have any other stomach issues? issues with depression, fatigue, irritability, introversion?

One thing no one has mentioned is that it's best to start the day with the carb meals and wean down to no carbs except maybe a couple fibrous vege's with your last two-three meals.

i've had a hell of a time losing weight. and as far as the other four you mentioned, i do feel those four quite often, however, i've figured out how to keep them under wraps through the use of my mind, though it could be something to do with the body (celiac, etc.). there's no way for me to know. but since i've been off of my usual carb sources and not stacking up on dairy, i feel great. my new daily diet is as follows:

230g pro/165g carb/72g fat = 2228 cals

3 eggs and 2 whites, 1 serving beans rice, veggies
40, 40, 15

8 oz salmon salad(lettuce, cucumber, tomato, pepper, celery) with 1 tbsp. olive oil
40, 5, 30

tuna can, 1 serving beans rice, veggies
40, 50, 4

scoop protein with berries
25, 10, 2
scoop protein with 30g oats
25, 30, 2

chicken breast with beans rice and broccoli
40, 30,

3 whole eggs, veggies
20, 14
