Fasting

I am currently at the close of day 1 of a religious fast.
I am wondering how many days you guys think I could safely go. (keep in mind no food or water)

also share if you have performed a multi day fast.

I guess we run in different circles. I have heard of/done multi-day fasts, typically in preparation for ritual or such. Water is usually the only nutrient allowed.

Different strokes for different folks

True True,
the no water part is why i asked....
I think i have heard that the average human can go a week with only water.

but since i am going no food or water i thought i would ask you guys what you thought.
I planned on going 2 to 3 days.
let me know what you think

I personally do not go a single day without water. Kidney stones in my PMH.

2 days without water is dangerous. 3 days is deadly. You can go up to a month with only water, no food. It isn't that healthy, but you'll very probably live if you go 3 weeks without eating. 3 days without water is suicidal.

Religious beliefs aside (which I respect)

IMHO, fasting is a horrible and irresponsible thing to do to your body.

I have gone 5 days with water only. I could not fathom having no water. There are some rough moments on an extended fast but there can also be some very enlightening spiritual growth IMHO

No one can be a great thinker who does not recognize that as a thinker it is his first duty to follow his intellect to whatever conclusions it may lead. Truth gains more even by the errors of one who, with due study, and preparation, thinks for himself, than by the true opinions of those who only hold them because they do not suffer themselves to think.

If you're doing this to devote more time in prayer and pull closer to God, I've found an alternative that works much better for me.

A media fast. No TV/ radio/ and only checking email if you have to once a day. I did it for a week and it definately changes your perspective.

This may not work for you, as I don't know your goals/ religion, etc.

I've done fasting (a week) where I could only have veggies and water... there are books on fasting but they all include drinking water as part of the fast... sounds scary dude
