To much sushi?

Okay, I had a date last night with a girl much to young for me, but I digress.
I wanted to get sushi, but she doesn't eat sushi anymore, because of "the mercury levels and toxic metals".
This got me thinking, I eat sushi twice a week. Is this too much?
I don't want to poison myself.
Unless I get superpowers. Superpowers trumps everything.
I really just want someone to reassure me that I can continue to eat sushi safely.
Peace

If you don't eat it, I will.

But seriously, I think you're more likely to be fine than be poisoned (of course this depends on the type of fish you're eating and the actual quantity).

I think it partly depends upon what you're getting when you go out. Generally speaking, the bigger the fish that your protein is coming from, the more heavy metals it's flesh will contain, but if you're only eating it twice per week you should be fine. The levels aren't that high - something like 80-90% of the world's people have fish as their primary source of protein, and assuming your bi-weekly sushi trips aren't the only protein you're getting you'll be better off than the rest of those people.

If you were eating large quantities of tuna 3x daily 6 days per week I might tell you to dial it back, but as of now enjoy your sushi.

(Felt the need to chime in as I just had a massive plate of sashimi :D )

Canned with a little of that kraft mayo with the olive oil and black pepper. 3 cans a day.

Oh yeah, and a spoon...
Me too, just get boring after a while. I have mixed relish and some cayenne peeper into it too, not too bad

Was you date wearing a loose fitting shirt??? Ya know like a maternity blouse??!!??? When your pregnant the docs tell you to stay away from sushi due to the high mercury levels and toxins found in raw fish. My girlfriend almost cried when she got pregnant for that very reason!!! Just saying.....:)

i've heard this.. i know for a fact the "strip mall" sushi places refuse to serve anything of lower quality than what we call the best tuna state side.

BTW Green tea is susposed to help with the mercury (block to absobsion or something??) Anyways if the OP wants to stop eating sushi 2x a week please send me the money you are saving and i will go get some :)

Yikes, if she is, she will never see me again!
Just kidding. No she's not pregnant, just a little hippy chick, who thinks we have polluted the oceans beyond repair.

Try it with half of the amount of mayo and a shot of spicy brown mustard or wasabi. Really makes it alot less boring.

Damnit i want sushi now...

You may already be poisoned. You have all the signs of turning down a younger chick for pointless reasons. Listen to her stories of peace and love and polution and just nod and smile and maybe next time you'll get her sushi :D

invalid argument.
The rest of the post is solid , enjoy your sushi.

Eating sushi twice a week isn't bad. The mercury levels in the fish really only hurt you when you overdo it on fish. If you were eating the sushi three to four times a week I would say that it would be a problem.

I eat sushi maybe 3-4 times a week. My wife is an addict, we eat out a lot, and it's easy to fit in my macros.
As far as I was aware, the mercury levels aren't an issue if you stick with fish lower on the food chain [salmon, etc.]. I avoid tuna due to potential mercury poisoning and the questionable ethics behind farming for them... and shrimp too.

:) That's classic!!!!

I ate at a sushi joint in Raleigh that did so much business that they would shut down 2 weeks out of the year and take their employees on a paid vacation!! How many restaurants that you know do that??!!??
