Why does everyone recommend brown rice over whole wheat pasta?

I was just wondering why everywhere I read it says you should quit the pasta and eat brown rice instead. The thing is I am sitting here with my whole wheat pasta with a nutrition profile like this:

    PASTA:
    Calories: 330
    Protein: 11g
    Carbohydrates: 66
    Dietary fibre: 8,5
    Fat: 2

    Vs my brown rice:

    RICE:
    Calories: 370
    Protein: 9,5g
    Carbohydrates: 75g
    Dietary fibre: 2,5
    Fat: 3g

To me the nutrition profile of the whole wheat pasta seems more favourable, less calories, fewer carbs, higher protein, less fat and a lot more dietary fibre am I missing something?

I know it may depend on individual goals but in general I believe most people would prefer the pasta in this case?

It's not because of macros, it's because of ingredients. I think most people find whole grain pasta to not be bad, though (just remember whole wheat doesn't always = whole grain).

You are right...whole grain does not have to actually be whole wheat, but if it says 100% whole wheat, it MUST be real whole wheat.

Whole Wheat > Whole grain in marketing terms

I think it has more to do with the gluten vs. no gluten aspect of it.

I eat 100% whole wheat pasta instead of rice.
I also eat Barilla PLUS pasta...awesome stuff!

I eat very little to NO rice...pasta in small portions several times a week. One huge plate of pasta once per week on carb-up days.

I'd be all over pasta too if they had a pasta cooker that was the equivalent of a rice cooker. I have a rice cooker at both home and work, between those two places is where I spend all 24 hours of my day that i'm not in the gym. And each one of them is actually on a digital timer, it cooks the rice when I need it and it's ready to eat when my next meal is.

So for me rice is just so much more convenient than pasta.

The difference is relatively minor as in real world terms is the difference with eating regular pasta or white rice too. Not a huge difference honestly. Look at http://www.glycemicindex.com/ and see how small the difference is between white + brown rice.

Quinoa is by far the best grain type source. Potatoes of any kind are pretty good, and any whole fruits. Whole grain bread aren't too bad but I opt for that one step further and go with sprouted grain bread. And oats are pretty good too. It's more about minimal processing of the carbs. Oh and as sweetener, stevia, honey or agave nectar.

Easy. Pasta is processed. Rice is not.

I think they both suck... I rarely have either. Carbohydrates are a luxury and should be treated as so, and seeing how the nutritional benefits of both are pretty weak compared to other grains or carbohydrate sources...

I treat carbohydrates as a delicacy in my diet, therefore if I choose to incorporate them into my daily intake, the choice will usually be very nutritious and beneficial. Brown rice/pasta does not have any vitamins, just some common minerals which can be acquired elsewhere. Not to say I avoid them, I just treat them as so..

It's the gluten content really. Pasta is much more processed and has more by-product like components like gluten.
