Personally i wouldnt mess up your sleep patterns and you want the most hours of sleep in REM for best recovery and GH release. Cause the more time you spend in REM the better and by waking yourself more then likely right in it your not getting as much.

It depends, what your losing is disrupted growth hormone release probally. Best things to eat are lowcarb casien shake, or any lowcarb protein source.
Probodybuilders are known to set their clocks, and wake up to eat something, but they have so much muscle, they are worried about losing it. plus they take GH.

What I do is leave a cup with sum protein in it by the bathroom and when I wake up to pee I drink a shake.
