Sugar free sweeteners... same insulin spike?

I came across a thread on another board which really caught my attention. The discussion at hand was that the body reacts to artificial sweeteners (ex. Splenda, Aspartame) the same way it would to an actual sugar, producing the very same insulin spike everyone is trying to avoid.

It's interesting, because it entirely makes sense. Another member referred to the Pavlov experiment, with the body reacting to the sugary taste, illiciting its own insulin spike.
