Steve Irwin Crocodile Hunter has died

Even though this guys does some crazy stuff I was still shocked to read this.

Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin dead | NEWS.com.au

THE Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, is dead. He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said today. It is understood he was killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest. He was swimming off the Low Isles at Port Douglas filming an underwater documentary when the tragedy occured.

Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality this morning at Batt Reef off Port Douglas.
Irwin's body is being flown to Cairns. It is believed his American-born wife Terri is trekking on Cradle Mountain in Tasmania and is yet to be told of her husband's death.

Irwin - known worldwide as the Crocodile Hunter - is famous for his enthusiasm for wildlife and his catchcry "Crikey!". The father of two's Crocodile Hunter program was first broadcast in 1992 and has been shown around the world on cable network Discovery.

He has also starred in movies and has developed the Australia Zoo wildlife park, north of Brisbane, which was started by his parents Bob and Lyn Irwin.

Tributes have already started pouring in for the larger-than-life character. Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, who used a photograph of his family at Australia Zoo for his official Christmas card last year, hailed Mr Irwin for his work in promoting Australia. Irwin was heavily involved in last year's "G'Day LA" campaign.

"The minister knew him, was fond of him and was very, very appreciative of all the work he'd done to promote Australia overseas," a spokesman said. A Tourism Queensland spokeswoman said the death was shocking and paid tribute to Irwin's "enormous contribution" to his adopted state.

Louise Yates said it was impossible to quantify how much Mr Irwin had meant to the Queensland tourism industry. "I don't think we could even estimate how much he brought us through his personality and his profile and his enthusiasm about Queensland," she said. "It would be difficult to estimate how much he was worth. And it would be difficult to underestimate."

She said Irwin had been a larger-than-life ambassador. "It's not just what he brought but what he took with him when he travelled, his passion." Australia Zoo, on southeast Queensland's Sunshine Coast, employs more than 500 people and attracts thousands of visitors every day.

But Ms Yates said it would be "unfair and unjust" to put a dollar value on Irwin's worth to the state, because of how much he had given.

WOW, he certainly was a wild guy, holding his newborn close to a croccadile. What a brutal way to die, i thought some animal would have eaten him or something.

Look at it this way, not too many people get to go out doing what they love. And anyone who has ever seen his show knows he had an unbelievable passion for what he was doing. Hat's off to him.

    Rest In Peace...

    Stephen Robert "Steve" Irwin

Steve, AM & friends wishes your wife and 2 children the best.

    These are for you Steve:

    Irwin Tribute *UPDATED*
    RIP Steve Irwin
    RIP STEVEN IRWIN

One of the many reasons why Steve was loved by so many:

    YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

    Steve's Foundation:

Previously known as the Steve Irwin Conservation Foundation...

    Wildlife Warriors Worldwide

Donation info can be found at:

    www.wildlifewarriors.org.au/make_a_donation

Animal Planet interview with Steve "Crocodile Man" Irwin:

If you had to pick a favourite animal, which one would it be and why? Crocodile because they are living dinosaurs!

Of all the endangered species in the world, which do you feel deserve our most immediate attention? Orang-utans we wont have them in another 35 years if we dont act now!

When did you first become fascinated with animals? When I was just four years old.

What pets do you have at home? I live in the middle of Australia Zoo, so all the animals in the zoo are my pets in a way.

What has been your most interesting animal encounter? Out of thousands of encounters going one on one with the gorillas at Howletts Wild Animal Park in England and being accepted as one of their own.

Which charities do you work closest with? I have my own wildlife conservation foundation called Wildlife Warriors Worldwide, which not only funds the Australian Wildlife Hospital, but also contributes to research and aid for endangered species.

How could our viewers do more to help the animals of the world? By not purchasing any wildlife products many animals are being pushed to the brink of extinction by poachers and the illegal wildlife trade.

I'm sure he did and I'm sad for them, but you try and stick a turkey baster up the ass of enough deadly animals and you're bound to bite it sooner than normal. At least he lived his life on his terms, doing what he loved.

I'd love to be doing that but I also enjoy living too. Sort of a toss up. I was part of a motorcycle club around DC and a couple years ago a stun rider was about to get his bike repo'd and decided to stunt on his motorcyle naked and in the middle of riding a wheelie he veered off and ran into a parked tow truck and died on impact.

His club members said he would of wanted to go that way. He loved stunt'n...

Now I don't care how much you love riding but unless you're retarded or high, you're not thinking..."hey when I die I want to be in my early 20's and die bucked naked impaled on a tow truck"

Well if you got to go...

Personally I never understood repetative stupidity. I'm more of a do it if it's worth it, then cross it off the list kind of guy. I've done some crazy ****, but at this point in my life most adrenaline junkies just seem like idiots with death wishes to me.

Me too CDB. I believe in doing what you love and dying while doing what you love is honorable in itself but it also makes a good bit of sense to avoid the dying part as best you can. That's not a jab at the croc hunter but the naked stunter and others like him.

I heard about this on Yahoo news this morning.... totally caught me off guard. The Croc Hunter was a crazy dude that really entertained a lot of people. I'm going to miss hearing the "Criky" phrase that he pretty much trademarked.
