Jul. 20--SmartPill, an ingestible capsule that records medical information as it passes through the digestive system, was approved for sale and use in Canada, SmartPill Corp. announced.
The monitoring system is non-invasive way to monitor patients with slow gastric emptying, a condition that affects a wide range of patients, including those with Type II diabetes, the company said.
The Pill transmits data to a device slightly larger than a cell phone on the patient's belt. A doctor then analysis the data.
SmartPill Corp is awaiting FDA approval to market the technology in the U.S. The company is marketing its product in Canada with Montreal distributor Minogue Medical.
