Japan Tobacco and Others Jointly Announce that GABA Helps Controlling Body Temperature During Exercise

Tokyo, Japan, May 23, 2006 (JCN Newswire via COMTEX) -- Japan Tobacco announced on May 22 that, in collaboration with Osaka University and Pharma Foods International, it made a presentation on its current research on gamma amino butyric acid (GABA) at the 60th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Nutrition and Food Science held on May 21.
GABA is a kind of natural amino acid known for its stress-relieving and relaxing effects.
The three partners have confirmed that a sports drink containing GABA has properties to suppress elevations in body temperature while alleviating mental fatigue during exercise.
Going forward, Japan Tobacco will proceed with research on GABA and leverage findings in future product development.
