Predator as Prey
Ouch, embarassing, the ghosts of cyberspace. I'm pleading the Fifth.

He just got older, lost a little of his amazing speed, and Tarver had his number. He also suffered from not having any real competition throughout most of his career. We never got to see how good Roy could've been, IMO.
He's fighting Felix Trinidad at 170, Jan 19. Hopefully we'll see the old RJ. After being KO'd by Glen Johnson and Tarver he needed a nice break. I'd love to see him in shape and motivated.

I see. I knew RJ rapped but didn't know of his songs . Rarely do athletes make good rappers, but there are exceptions:
What's up Doc? Can we Rock?
Super Cali Fragi Listic Shaq is allidoshus.......

JLB beat that Bok Choi (is that a pun? ) eating Pitutary Freak decisively at the K-1 WGP finals twoish weeks ago. The Techno giant has virtually no lateral movement, no RJ, jr. Rooster shuffle in him, all Fedor has to do is flank him and he'll go down and out like a hamfisted version of Giant Silva.

This is the first MMA vid I ever put up, and still the very best Portrayal of why the Participants of Pain and PRIDE were special. Ferocious fights between dynamic Kickboxing and Jits melded Combatants under less restrained rules and the duress of longer stamina revealing rounds. R.I.P; hope to see these ways and means again.

I can name every fighter shown, except for a few Japs and some under a mask, bet Rodja and Size and Alex and Jas and ? can too, those were the days,....

That still is the best HL clip Rogue. I agree that there was something special about Pride. The atmosphere, sense of grandeur, respect of the audience and better rules made it larger than life. The main fighters seemed to have more personality too.
I also still think that Wand would have beaten Chuck in 03 at the GP if that had happened.
12-30-2007, 01:51 PM
I miss Pride so much. The rules more than anything else, it was more of a real fight. You wanna hit the ground, turtle up, you're gonna pay.

When you talk about heart, this should be one of the first guys mentioned. What an absolutely disgusting axe kick he had.

What happened to Kharitonov/Mighty Mo? Kharitonov loves getting punched in the face, best not try that against Mighty Mo. Kharitonov would kick his ass, wonder what happened.

Don't know but I heard it was off a while ago.

Was the kick illegal? Good fight either way. I thought Misaki was done when he got dropped, nice recovery. Misaki seemed extra pumped for that fight.
01-04-2008, 06:15 PM
I don't know what rules they fight with in K1. I've barely watched it.
That was a crazy little bouncing thing Misaki was doing to block and set up leg kicks. It was actually pretty effective, though I suppose with time opponents would figure out how to time it.
01-04-2008, 06:25 PM
Nice Hug vids Alex. How did he die? Anyone know the music in that first one?
01-04-2008, 06:33 PM
Banana split sub vid
01-04-2008, 06:51 PM
Hug died from Leukemia, I think. Happened real quickly from what I remember. Nice sub vids, Jas.
Beo, I think Hero's still allows kicks to the head of a downed opponent, but I don't think it's allowed in M-1. The bouncing Misaki was doing was interesting.
01-04-2008, 06:55 PM
I don't think Hug was much bigger than 5'10", 205, and you'll notice most of his opponents have a distinct look of fear when facing him.

Nice find Beo. There were some crazy slams in there.

Mirko in pro wrestling in Japan:
It doesn't look very "fake" to me. He also looks like he's back on gear if you watch the whole video.
01-05-2008, 06:35 PM
Pro-wrestling in Japan is very different than it is over here. To put it simply, it's staged, but they definitely take damage.

Kazmaier did pro wrestling? Forgive me if I'm not getting a joke you're telling, my mental clarity is at an all time low right now. Who was that guy anyways, Kyle Turley?????
01-05-2008, 08:58 PM
01-05-2008, 09:36 PM
How do I know? His toes. He's aiming for right of that guys head, then hooking left. More straight extension then over, an L shape, not purely a circular sweep. If he was aiming to hit below the left ear, his toes would be curled inward at the extension of the strike.
It's a subtle, very professional difference, only guys at CC's level can safely pull this off. That has to be choregraphed and well rehearsed. The margin for error here is not much, he may have really hurt that guy,the wrastler turned his head to the left and took the blow the back of the head, he should have turned right and took it to the side of the neck. That's a lot of power, look at that velocity.
Better stick with the slow static stuff, Strongman, and leave the slick speed striking and theatrics to us professionals.
01-05-2008, 09:40 PM
hmmm hmmm, no one is going to comment on the Kyle Turley reference?
01-05-2008, 09:49 PM
Who's Kyle Turdley? Is that another of your Offensive line jokes, Kansas City Chief?
01-05-2008, 09:56 PM
Kyle Turdley, I think, is the guy in that wrasslin video with The Big Show? Don't worry, Jas will put up that Wandy shaking his head gif, for my bad joke.
It must be scary as hell anticipating that kick from Crocop. No matter how precise 1 out of 10 of those is a skull shaker.

Cro Cop To The Top (aka CCTTT): "Highlights Mirko's career form his K-1 days, through his victory in PRIDE'S Open Weight Grand Prix"
CCTTT <--download, but worth the time. I looked for a direct link, but couldn't find an active one, sorry.
It's about a half an hour long and an excellent watch for CC nuthuggers and MMA fans alike!!!

Here's another DeSouza fight. This is from Jungle Fight in Brazil. More lethargic standup followed by a couple of nice takedowns and some great grappling.
01-06-2008, 12:07 AM
Damn, that was a nasty kneebar. Looked like the Kubis guy didn't think Desouza could get it in that exact position, ouch.
01-06-2008, 12:47 AM
Hell yeah! If you can trap the knee under your armpit the torque is ridiculous. That Brazilian dude definitely took some damage.

That was pretty vicious at the end. I didn't think Kid looked that great. He was getting pounded with uppercuts in the clinch.
