Denis Kang signs with K-1 HERO's

Denis Kang of the American Top Team has finally signed a contract and may fight as early as October. “I’m with K-1 HERO’s now, it is official. As early as October you might see me in there. At least I found a home or a job basically. There were a few sticking points I can’t really go into detail. Both parties have to be happy.” When pressed about how long the contract is Denis could only state, “I can tell you I’ll be there for at least a year.”

This contract does allow Kang to fight in Spirit MC, the Korean company where Kang has been champion for three years and arguably gave him his launch into Pride. “I’m still allowed to fight in Spirit MC where I’ll be defending my title pretty soon” states Kang. This is interesting considering EliteXC made a “capital investment” in Spirit MC’s parent company Entlian Corp earlier this month which combined with the historic K-1 HERO’s/EliteXC pay-per-view earlier this year seemed to leave the door open for Denis to fight in EliteXC where Robbie Lawler just won the belt from Murilo Rua.

Denis however is mainly focused on K-1 HERO’s of course. “I’m excited. I want to get in there, shake up the division, and take the belt in the grand prix. Too bad they aren’t having a grand prix this year but I’ll be looking to get it next year. You have guys like Melvin Manhoef, (Yoshihiro) Akiyama, (Kazushi) Sakuraba, Yoon Dong Sik, Zelg Galesic…a lot of Pride guys are going over there. I heard Yushin Okami might be going over there.”

“I know everybody has been waiting a long time to see me fight. I never stopped training, I’ve been doing nothing but” Denis continues, “I’m itching to get in there and make a big impact for my first one is six months.”

Denis is mainly known for his participation in the Pride: Bushido tournament last year where he lost to Kazuo Misaki in the finals with a shoulder injury. His most recent fight was in Spirit MC where he beat Jung Gyu Choi by decision, injuring his hand in the process. Kang has been off all summer working out the contract situation and healing the hand while helping train fighters Marcus Aurelio to Bill Mahood.
In the ADCC News archives are multiple updates with Denis stretching all the way back to his participation in the Extreme Challenge Middleweight tournament series of 2003. For more information check out deniskang.com.

He should dominate that division. It is kind of a waste for him to be in K-1. Damn Zuffa...

I agree Rodja. It would have been nice to see him tear it up in the current UFC but Zuffa strikes again.

He is a top-3 MW to me. I think he could beat anyone in the division and would favor him against everyone except for Anderson and Lindland.

I agree. I hope his contract ends soon, and we see him in the UFC.

Akiyama and Manhoef might make for fun fights but not too consequential.

I would have rather seen him fight Lawler in EXC/Strikeforce than this.
