Alright, here's the card and it's the best UFC card in a while.

Rashad Evans Vs. Tito Ortiz
Nathan Marquardt Vs. Anderson Silva
Hermes Franca Vs. Sean Sherk
Alvin Robinson Vs. Kenny Florian
Heath Herring Vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
Mike Nickels Vs. Stephan Bonnar
Diego Saraiva Vs. Jorge Gurgel
Jason Gilliam Vs. Chris Lytle
Mark Bocek Vs. Frank Edgar

Rules:
1. Pick a winner for each fight. (worth 2 pts each)
2. Pick a method of victory for each fight - KO, sub, decision (worth 1 pt each) ***Note that KO counts as TKO, ref stoppage, cut/doctor stoppage, or choke out with NO tapout (as we saw in Baroni-Shamrock)
3. Pick a stoppage time for the Sherk-Franca fight. For example, if you think Franca will sub Sherk at 2:36 of the 2nd round (time counts down from 5:00), then list 2:36 rd 2 by your pick (this is used as a tie breaker). I picked this fight since the other 2 may have higher chances of a decision or people picking a decision making them ineffective tiebreakers.

Prize:
Reps and a years supply of supps from Avant :whip:. We could also let the winner choose an avator for the last place finisher to be kept for one week if we wanted to. (J/K about the supps)

Get them in by 8 PM ET on Saturday 7-7-07.

I am surprised at the lack of support for Silva. I haven't decided on a few of the fights so I am still holding out on my picks.

I can't really decide on that one, but I think Marquardt might be able to takedown and slowly GnP Silva.

Evans-Tito is tough too. I switched to Evans today. May switch again.....

I'm liking Anderson more and more. Marquardt is a stud and all, but until Anderson faces Lindland, Hendo, or Filho, I'm not picking against him. I also just really hope that he wins. I mean is there anyone on this forum that would really rather have Marquardt as the champ? Personally I'm trying to see the Spider dissect bamas standing.

Don't forget your finishing time in Sherk-Franca. When in the 3rd round?

Alex, I agree that Silva is pretty damn exciting and makes a good champ. I still haven't seen that much of Marquardt but he supposed to be a very cerebral, methodical fighter (=boring?, we'll see). Silva needs to quit holding back on the dancing, though. Let the MJ music play.

Mark Bocek Vs. Frank Edgar - Edgar by TKO

Silva vs. Marquart is the main event/co main with Sherk.

wtf? no love for my man Nate?!?

Marquart is up there with Silva regarding, experience, bbj, etc. Plus, he is def bigger (silva is not 6-2) Ive seen him take some hard punches!

I do give a slight stand up edge to Silva, but not by much. I just dont think Silva will domonate on the feet as much as everyone is thinking he will. Nate has been around long enough and without a doubt will be well prepared for Silva.

Since many people will likely pick a decision for Tito-Rashad, it doesn't seem like a good tie-breaker (could have a similar issue with the Marquardt pickers). I decided Sherk-franca was a better fight to have the tie-breaker go to.

Sherk-Franca, even.

I don't think having a fight that's already happened is a good way to determine a tie. ;)

Marquardt is getting a lot of love. I think it's 50/50 in this contest thread. I think Silva is 6-2, based on seeing him next to guys like Murray, Franklin, and how he towers over the 5-9ish guys like Newton and Chonan. Marquardt has a really good chance to win IMO, but I would give Silva a lot more than a slight edge in the stand up.

Franca appears to be in his best shape yet, based on the weigh-in. I doubt it will matter.

Yeah, he did. Herring looked to be in his "O'brien level" shape again. Although, Nog is bigger at 240.5 as well.

Marquardt at 182.5? Did he just over-cut or does he not cut weight?

Marquardt definitely cuts weight. I would guess 3 months out he's walking at 200 or more.

I can see this two ways - Nate has the Decision game. He can hard straight punch Anderson to safely close ground for a takedown and LNP Silva when he can't pass guard or do anything from side mount with a from the bottom wriggling and striking Silva and when they stand it up, Anderson will offset Nate from a side angle and fluidly strike him out.

Marquadt gets cred for fighting the lesser and same competition in Pancrease, I know I just screwed that spelling up, but Silva is a class above, Pride class, Chonan's sub was gifted by a less than focused Anderson, IMO.

I'll make my pick tommorow early.

Our Main event - Hermes is Toast, his best chance is to catch Sherk in an offangle hook from his usual duck. Unless he can hit just the right KO angle or pursue with a combo, Sherk will only be momentarily stunned and his superior conditioning will shake off the hit and he'll punch back and/or shoot to tie down Franca. Not sure if Sherk can strike to a finish upright, I think he lack KO power in his fast straight hands, or down with a defensive Franca, but he'll win on sheer intense stamina for a decision, Sherk is a Mighty Mite Typhoon.

Edit -Hermes better keep Sean low on the ground, if Sherk mounts he's in a for a brutal beating.

I like Stephen Bonnar as a person and his potential as a fighter, but his chaotic training schedule has me in doubt, I'll probably still pick him, he's potential waiting to happen.

Gurgel has bad luck and great technical standup and subs, he'll win, he's been an underachiever to his skills and heart, to date.

Who else? Evans and Ortiz - Tito is hype without a real performance against a real fighter in how long? three years?, beating Geriatic Egomaniac Shamrock is nothing, Evans by a bit more in everthing than Ortiz. I predict the end of Zuffa's association to Janna Jamieson's Boyfriend after Saturday. Tito is like Jenna , hasbeen classic and overrated, there has been much better performers since. Evans just has to strike at free range, Tito melts under a on and off barrage when he can't hug and drop someone towards the fence.

Nog is a machine, he'll wear out on and off drunk and chasing Pussy Party boy The Crazy Horse.

'Nuff said.

Finally watched the all access Sherk special. Dahaamn, that dude does not fu*k around. That midget makes me feel extremely lazy. I'm slowly liking Sherk more and more. I'm no Sir Savage, but I'm a fan. Needless to say, I don't think Franca has much of a chance, but it is the year of upsets.

Alex, you're right, I think Marquardt has to cut weight at his size. I couldn't remember how tall he is, but he is a pretty big 85er.

I agree with Rogue Drone about Hermes. I don't think he is that great of a fighter personally. He employs that odd angle throw similarly to Chuck but with less accuracy. You can see it when he punches, he ducks his head down. I thought Spencer Fisher was going to beat him and I think he had the chance to but got caught with that head ducking right. I don't think Sherk will get caught the same way though. If Sherk loses this board might become an angry mob and shun the UFC lol.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm positive it's a Barnett fight. I think you're right. It's been floating around the MMA forums elsewhere forever.

Jenna looks so horrid these days. Supposedly at the end of the weigh-in vid yesterday Rogan rips on some chick as having let herself go to a cameraman. The speculation is that he is refering to Jenna.

Yeah, I heard about Rogan ripping on some chick, didn't know it was possibly Jenna, although that would make perfect sense.

On a side note, why the hell is Mike Nickels in the UFC? Bonnar is going to look amazing against Nickels IMO. If he loses to Nickels he may want to consider retiring.

Haha no I am kidding, but man there were some close calls, i.e. Sherk and Noguiera almost getting knocked out! But damn I think I was the only one to choose Ortiz and he would have one minus that point he lost, GRRR. Great fights overall and I am glad I finally picked well lol. Last time wasn't so good ;).
