Take steps to protect your ability to obtain compounded prescriptions. Certain special interests and lawmakers would like to restrict or take away our custom compounded medications.

Customize the form letter they offer. Doing so will add more weight to your request. Get anyone you know to do the same. Recent events have demonstrated that lawmakers can listen to their constituents.

Go to the following link and write your lawmakers:

P2C2 - Patients and Professionals for Customized Care: Legislation Alert

PLEASE do this!! As a compounding pharamcist our profession is under constant attack. Primarily due to Phrma lobbyists, but also from certain misguided consumer groups (often funded by drug companies, hmm) congress and FDA are seeking to centralize oversight of compounding pharmacy. This of course has nothing to do with oversight, if they can take this from the states and bring it under FDA then they can peel away our ability to compound one category at a time. Please know this is very real.

The P2C2 link above is what I would use. They are very organized and have a good letter there under the patients, caregivers, etc link. There is also a link to information there. P2C2 is an advocacy group formed by parties interested in protecting compounding pharmacy. It is FREE to join and receive updates, etc.

It's easy to add to or edit the letter provided by the link. I added my personal need for compounded prescriptions to make a real argument for keeping the service available. Customizing the letter will add weight to the cause.
