    Have him test

    Hemoglobin A1C
    insulin

    Hemoglobin A1C
gives average insuline levels, I think it may be a better indicator.

    If you know A1C
    you can calculate average glucose

HA1c is a cheap test. You can have it done in some pharamcies, just check around. It is an indicator of blood sugar levels over the last 2 to 3 months. Some insulin resistant pts have high fasting BS and after eating a high glycemic index food get a low BS reading due to an insulin "over reaction"(if the reading was after a meal). But, some people do have high readings first thing in the AM due to GH secretion raising BS during the night. Definetly need more info to know much of anything. Take some readings 1 to 2 hours after meals.
