Armour Thyroid Confusion

Hey everybody,

I've just been wondering whether or not Armour is always used to completely replace one's natural thyroid production, or if it is sometimes used as an adjunct to one's natural thyroid production.

For example, if one has FT3 and FT4 in the middle of the normal range, and presents with hypothyroid symptoms, is Armour introduced with the aim of allowing the body to continue to produce it's own thyroid, with the additional exogenous thyroid being used to bring the patient into a euthyroid state? Or is the armour introduced to completely eliminate the patient's own natural thyroid production and thus the exogenous thyroid is responsible for the entirety of the body's needs?
