Low For My Age???

fakename

New member
Hi,

Been on the board for a while but wanted some anonymity with this one. I am 27 years old and had my natural test levels measured for the first time by the doc last week due to some symptoms that i have been having. i have never had to shave more than my chin once a month... regardless, results came back as follows:

total - 474 ng/dl
free - 92 pg/ml or 1.9% free

now this falls in the normal range according to the lab, but isn't this low for a 27 year old? doc won't even talk to me about it but wants to prescribe anti-depressants....what do u guys think?

Thanks

Get a new Dr.

I had symptoms since I was 24 (currently 36). One Dr. wanted to put me on Prozac, actually tried it for a month. Worthless except for side effects. Some Dr.'s told me it was all in my head. Finally levels dropped to 295 and have started TRT. Mentally, I feel better, but libido hasn't come back so still figuring things out. Not always straightforward.

Without a good doctor with experience or at least a Dr. with an open mind who is willing to learn more (consult with Dr. Crisler or other) then you are wasting your time.

Trust me I wasted 12 years with Drs. telling me everything is in my head or "you need to change your expectations" What a joke. Don't waste these good years of your life.

yeah, he told me that level is 'perfectly normal' for me. i don't think so - i feel like half of a man.

Good advice.

I am learning (slowly) there is possibly an angle that I was not aware of.
Try as you may to ge classified first.
Primary-- testicles cannot produce enough
Secondaty -- testicles are ok but not getting proper signal, HPTA

Often both cases are treatable (with approach proper for primary) (TRT=T+HCG+E2 management) and one ends up with working pines and other benefits.

It is much better to be secondary and then have fixed HPTA.
The additional (huge) benefit is feelings, being horny, etc they are absent in fixed primaries.
So stay away (as long as you can) from going on (popular) TRT.
Work on HPTA first.

I could use education on:

How HPTA goes out of alingment?
a. in steroid use
b. when steroids or T supplementation was absent (my case)

How one is testing HPTA?
Types of HPTA problems.
How are they repaired.

It's not an awful number,so there may be other things at play than just low T.

Better to get a good Dr. then just start taking Test Cyp injections. Once you start you can end up chasing your tail and never know what was wrong in the first place. Unfortunately I may in that boat.
