Going to the DR's in a week..What to ASK and how to ASK?

Hi all I'm new here. I have been sifting through all of the posts and thought it may be easier to just ask a question.

I'm 38 and will be having my first physical in years next week. I have been having low sex drive and feel tired from time to time. I try to eat healthy as much as possible and I'm also dealing with chronic tendinitis in both elbows.

I do workout, mostly cardio and legs due to the tendinitis. Which is a drag.

I was thinking about having blood tests done but not sure what to ask for or what tests to ask for. After reading a lot of posts I'm wondering if my hormones are out of whack or something? I'm not sure, I'm just trying to get all the info I can before I go to the DR's and ask them the right questions.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for your time.

Janzs has a list of tests somewhere that I am sure someone will post. As for the tendinitis, have you tried Glucosomine and Chondroiton: Invalid Link Removed it has helped a lot of people with joint soreness.

Alot of insurance companies are starting to question the test Dr's are runing so your Dr needs to be cautious of this..

Thanks, I ordered some bulk Super Cissus RX I hear good things about that so I hope it helps. I'm going to see a DR about my elbows soon.

So should I just ask my DR to test my hormones because I dont feel the same? Or think something is not right?

Thanks again for your help.

Thanks, I understand that I have been having issues with my elbows for almost 2 years now with no luck. I have tried everything so I guess I'm already a lab experiment on that front and I will be willing to try anything to stop the PAIN!

From my reading, it looks like many people have had great luck with elbow pain and joint pain with Cissus and I haven't tried that out yet. So it's worth a shot at this point. I think I will either be getting my 2nd Cort shot and maybe 2 MRI's here very soon. Then who knows what will happen. Maybe under the knife if needed. Two years with very bad pain and I can't lift either. I'm sick of it to be honest. I have tried PT, ICE, Advil, Cort shots, Flax oil you name it....ouch it hurts to type even haha.

I would like to know more about the blood tests everyone has had had here? I would be interested to see where I'm at, I don't feel the same as I did 10 years ago and that's to be expected but I want to make sure nothing major is going on and maybe it can be rectified...

You could just start simple with typical 'physical' bloodwork (cholesterol etc) and mention you suspect you are low in T, and ask him to add total T and free T to the test.

Its not comprehensive, but if one of them comes back low, it will shed some light on the situation and open the doc up to discussing it further / sending you to a specialist / more test / possibly a Rx.

It is a very confusing process to start, because you have no idea if a doc is going to say "no", say "I'll give you test. pellets", or say "lets run more tests and get you on proper Test injections / HCG / etc..."

Feeling tired all the time is one of the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Ask them for a thyroid panel: TSH, Total T3 and T4, Free T3 and T4 as a start. If any of these are abnormal, then you may need to look at RT3, TgAb, and TPO antibodies. If they don't want to do thyroid testing, you can order these cheap through privatemdlabs.com, which has you go to a Labcorp near you. You then get the results online, and can print it and take it to your doc.
