New Look ibeforums.com

im sorry but ive seen the word "nolie" referenced a couple times now... is that a family name? what does it mean .... but the site is def verrrry nice.

Fans of Florida State (the Seminoles) are often referred to as Nolies by Miami Hurricane fans (such as myself).

It's a HUGE rivalry in football and baseball.

I wouldnt call it a HUGE rivalry in football, the noles already have a huge rival in football. It was a good match uo for maybe like 12 years.

Looking at it from the Nole side of things - no team on their schedule meant a national title birth more so than Miami.
You can't argue that UM-FSU means more to the national scene than UF-FSU. (Since the mid-80's.)

Yeah - I know, the Gator are closer in proximity. But - they have a mere 2 title game births (and wins) since UM and FSU started the real epic battles in the mid-80's.
The Canes have 4 wins and I've forgotten how many appearances.

The Noles I know will say Miami is bigger (save for most of the Coker tenure) just because we knocked them out of so many title game appearances.
Nearly all of the wide right/left games meant probable title games for the Noles.

Plus - the Gator rivalry is more close as far as wins and losses. With Miami - there are long streaks by both sides. But - really since 2000, FSU hasn't had nearly the success against the Canes that they have against the Gates.
I think that heats it up more for the Noles - just the trouble they've had.

In the end - depends on your definition of rivalry.
Gator fans will never admit a rivalry with UM - but they haven't beaten us since 1985...
