Moving to United Arab Emirates

Has anybody visited there/lived there? I will be living in Al-Ain, which is in the eastern district of the Abu Dhabi emirate on the Oman border. I will be about 1.5 hours from both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Any tips on customs (by that I mean what not to do so I don't inadvertantly piss a lot of people off).
Does anybody know if gear is legal there? If it is, I would assume the majority of it is of Iranian origin, correct?

My Dad got a job as CIO at United Arab Emirates University, so I am going with him to help him move in and get settled for the first few months. If I can find a job there that pays decently I might stay longer.
 
In the UAE, I think most stuff is illegal. I know my awesome Senator Hatch helped get, as he put it, "a nice young fellow" off of Ecstacy and Cocaine possession charges. You see, this 'nice young fellow' apparently 'didn't know' that recreational drugs were illegal in the UAE and that possession could lead to life imprisionment or the death penalty.

The funny part is, the 'nice young fellow' came from the US, where its illegal to possess those substances, but more funny is this 'nice young fellow' is a music producer, and Hatch writes and sells music.
So, I'm sure if you get into trouble for possessing something, Orrin Hatch would be more than happy to help you out.

Well it's a good thing I got off that Coke/XTC super cutting stack then.

Yes, and I'm sure he'll rush right over to bail you out of jail, or lend you a spot, or belt out a hymn.

I used to be big into sand duning, and I've seen pictures of some of the drag bikes those crazy bastards run. Amazing to say the least.

Anabolic steroids are legal to obtain and possess in the UAE.
