Car question

Are you calculating your MPG based on how much fuel you fill up with versus how much you use and the mileage? Or does the car have its own electronic MPG thing?

Do you have access to a code reader? Auto Zone will read your codes for free if you don't have one. Though the most I'd imagine you'd learn from that is if it is running rich or lean...which may or may not affect MPG. I don't know about your particular car.

1st thing's 1st, do the free things you can do yourself, I'd pull the plugs and "read" them for fouling. If they are fouled or miscolored, take a good photo and share it with the guys at Invalid Link Removed to get an opinion on the cause.

Check the plug wires for arcing (at night). Is your air filter clean? MAF sensor? Could be anything from an air/fuel issue to a computer issue...start with the simplest things...

My mazda 3 varies from 21mpg to 26, its all in how you drive it. Plus cold weather and winter fuel = gas guzzler. IMO this mazda 3 is the worst 4 banging guzzler

Thanks for the advice. I calculate based on how much I fill up and how many miles I drove. Air filter is all good, computer codes are all good, had it done few week ago because of another problem. I would imagine computer would pick up if there's something wrong with spark plugs.
It uses more fuel during cold weather, but I didn't think it would be that bad.

Check your tire pressure?

Put brand new tires about 2 weeks ago, right in time before all this rain and snow **** started here.

the cold weather always killed me. I seem to manage 24-26 in the summer, last tank I hit 21, I think I am gonna hit hi 22's this tank.

Add a few performance parts and dont let the foot get to you and it will go up a bit:twisted:

Also if you spend time warming it up in the morning that surely kills mpg to.

No can do.

But I don't drive any differently, than before.
And it's not that cold here to warm up the engine just yet.:whiner:

Replace the air in your tires with Nitrous. It has been proven to slightly increase gas mileage (not much, but a little)

It could also just be a bad tank of gas. See what the next tank brings you. If nothing, I would just assume the crappy winter fuel for who knows WHY we use, or E85

Why would car drop from 25mpg to 20 mpg? It's mazda6, few years old.

Damn I get 20 MPG in my MazdaSpeed 3 and it has 100 more horsepower than the 6 and regular 3. One thing that I am sure doesnt help is the fact that much more ethanol is added to winter fuel blends.

Who would have thought there was so many mazda owners on this board. Atleast I am faster than the 6:hammer:

Oh, I drove my car from Minneapolis to Portland in day and a half last spring. You are only speeding if you get caught. Right?:run:
