I went to see Hitman the movie last Thurs (Thanksgiving evening). I'll admit I've never actually played the video game. A lot of guys in my dorm/fraternity played the game a lot so I've seen the objectives behind it, etc, etc.
Usually most video game to movies have been unsuccessful. Tomb Raider was OK, but Doom, Alone in the Dark, Mortal Kombat, etc, etc just lack the ability to translate from 'video game' into 'real life movies'.
The movie was fairly good overall. The only 2 downsides to the movie was:
1. The action sequences, IMO could have had a bit more substance. Movies like The Matrix and Equilibrium have very good martial arts/fighting sequences. Since Agent 47 is not just any ordinary human, showing his fighting abilities/techniques should have reflected more than your 'James Bond' fighting sequences. They should have been a bit more 'superhuman' in manner.
2. Timothy Olyphant. He was not very convincing in his prior role 'Die Hard' as the bad guy, and his quirky personality did not fit Agent 47's role. I'm not sure if he is just being casted in the wrong types of movies or what. Timothy would be better casted in some type of humorous chick flick. He has the polished, clean look for one of those 'Guy meets girl, blows her off, learns life lesson, makes up with girl and lives happily ever after.'
Overall I'd say the movie is a solid B+.
