Holy hell! I'm not even a parent and that pisses me off a good one. In middle school, you're what 12-14 years old? WAY too young to be boning your class-mates. Save it for at least highschool. It's basically just saying "Kids, it is perfectly okay to have sex at age 13. In fact, we won't even tell your mommy and daddy." That ones gonna backfire bigtime.

Teach them about contraception, but I will be damned if I am going to pay for someone else's little rugrats to be farking.

Way to teach them responsibility...or is it just another indoctrination into a nanny government teaching them more entitlement.

Students at my school get free condoms. These are high schoolers and some have received up to 50 condoms per month. I made a snide remark and asked if we would teach them to make rubber balloon animals with that because there's no way a teen needs 50 condoms a month. This money could be used in better ways such as educational technology and after school programs.

I think schools in general need to have a more accepting curriculum about sexual education anyway. I'm not talking about teaching the kids about boning your classmates, but atleast guide them in the correct way on how to be safe about it.

Teen preganancy in the US is among the highest throughout the world and you want to know why? Because all of the kids out there are uninformed about ways to be responsible and safe. I'm not saying its the schools responsibility either to inform them. this responsibility definately relys on the parents, they need to get their head out of their asses and understand that your child is going to experiment sexually whether you like it or not. Thats human nature people!! So quit being so coy about SEX like its some big conspiracy or secret and inform your kids about it or atleast make sure they know they can come to you if they ever have questions.

I think our society have some F#$%^ up stigma about if we attempt to EDUCATE our children on how important it is to be safe if your going to engage in sexual activity it might traumatize the child... If you look at the country Sweden for example. I remember reading that they implemented an ACTUAL sexual education for their children that are in schoool at those ages and they have the lowest teen pregnancy rate in the world and are among the lowest in accidental pregnancies. Those children are fine and will probably be more responsible and better off they didn't knock up some classmate of theirs because they have been taught the safe way of things. So the US thinking it might make our kids bonkers to expose them to the truth and how to protect themselves.. gimme a break, what a bunch of BS.

Basically I don't condone what this school has done for the students, but the education system as a whole needs to step up and aid uninformed kids and inform them or teach the safe ways to engage in sexual activity or refrain from it by practicing abstinence.

I don't have an issue with it as long as the classes are taught by educated people and not just given to the gym teacher to fill out their schedule for the day. It also needs to be signed off on by the parents to allow their kids to participate.

Don't think for one instant that these classes are being taught by people with their own perception on sex. My opinion is that every parent should sit trhough the class before knocking it.

It's a fact that locations that teach abstinence have higher STI and pregnancy rates than those who teach safe sex... Now what is the point of knowing safe sex if you can't get any condoms anonymously?

If you think getting given condoms will cause your child to go and do stupid things, perhaps you child was just made to do stupid things... I had condoms available at my high school, so when the time came, I was very comfortable with them and everything was nice and safe.

Just because YOU think sex is evil and dirty does not mean everyone does, many people mature at different ages, kids will do what they do it's best they are feeling confident about safe sex.

Sex is wonderful, I'm not saying your 10 year old should do it, but what happens between to consenting teens inside a safe supportive environment can't be worse than a having herpes can it?

Condoms for everyone!

What's wrong with gym teachers ? :D Sometimes I think they just hired me to coach the football team and refill the 5 pound Alhambra water containers in the teachers lounge LOL.

Some schools do offer after school programs that educate kids but the reality is that schools are more worried about getting their kids to pass standardized tests so they can get the state off their backs and keep the funds rolling in year after year. The curriculum in all subjects is so regimented that some schools can't afford to use more of their resources on specialists for after school programs. That's why this (and many other programs) aren't always realistic for every school.

Its always about legslation not education! For hells sake...

Why does the government insist on doing a parents job? There are so many ****ty parents these days its sick. They should require back ground checks, and proper mental testing, and financial requirements to have children, and they should give a free gun with every purchace of a new car.

Damn hippies.

I knew I would get called out about the gym teacher comment, lol. I meant that whoever teaches the classes should be educated in that area and not given them as an additional duty.

I know what you mean though, we're not expected to be well spoken and educated ;) We are fully qualified to monitor after school detention, Saturday school, and teach drivers ed LOL.

Usually a credentialed specialist would teach something like that. The more specialized they are the more they cost. Many teachers don't have the time to do this as an additional duty. I feel bad for the amount of work which English, Math, and Science teachers have to put into lesson planning, discipline, correcting papers, and dealing with some parents. Even if one of these teachers was qualified they might skip on the additional duty due to those factors.

This was decided by the local school board not by lawmakers. This district has had something like 10 kids under 14 get pregnant the last year or so and were trying to do something to stop that trend. Is giving out contraception the best course of action?...who knows? And its not like any kid can walk into that place, they parents permission to do so.

Well, as much as it bothers me, kids these days are banging around that age. Actually, I can remember chicks that age being prego when I was in school. I don't condone it, but whatever.

In fact, I totally believe something should be done from an early age to prevent a lot of people from reproducing.

Parents can do their jobs but the facts are that 8+ hours each day, they belong to the school. It's a combined effort in raising kids in a day and age where sexual conduct is getting younger and younger. Hell, i'm in my 30's and the internet has allowed me to build my confidence by talking and making suggestive comments that I would of never made in person. Children/kids are not immune to these same technological encounters.

In our society, we take care of those who can not take care of themselves and I think that we should work together to limit those people out there.
