Making the dough...buisness, poker

Hey guys,

I'll be graduating college soon, with a major in Biology. I do not want to go through anymore schooling. I want to get right into the thick of things and start making money.

I want to eventually own my own buisness. I'm still brainstorming and thinking of ways to go about this. As of now, I'm playing poker for a living and doing decent. I'll always do this on the side, but I want something bigger, better, and more meaningful to do as well.

What are some good websites/forums dealing with buisness, entrepeneurs, stocks that you all know of?

As a side note, I have recently been thinking of marketing nootropics to poker players, as a start. There is a big market out there and I'm right in the mix of it. If any of you guys have ideas let me know.

Peace!

Room temperature superconductors. BIIIIIIG money in those.

Have to invent them first though, which I hear is difficult. :P

This was actually the concept behind Clear Edge (just take a look at the packaging). We had a contract all ready to go with Daniel Negraneau (sp) but unfortunately the deal fell through due to..., well, it fell through.

I still strongly believe, with the right formula and spokesman, that this would be a huge product that actually DOES help with concentration, impulse control, reactive balance, and reaction speed...as well as giving an overall mood boost (people play MUCH better when they are in a good mood....after all, it is called PLAYING poker.)

never knew this, very interesting. it's a very solid product, if you get a good spokesperson you will be in good shape, the market is definitely there

Testing this was interesting, to say the least. I initially included Green Tea Extract, which is a COMT inhibitor (prevents the breakdown of catecholamines, like adrenaline). My first bluff (all-in) I tried to take a sip of beer and almost spilled it all over the place, my hands shook so bad.

Umm...I took the GTE out.

you should include something that will slow down hand shaking/decrease anxiety, like a moderate dose of phenibut. or you shoulda chugged some beers before you got there :)

Oh, I did that too.

Still didn't work. One of the things that makes Clear Edge so great is that it doesn't overstim you.

But if you are shaking all the time, people won't be able to tell what the heck is going on.

I used to play in a decent sized cash game at school (PLO/NLH- $1/2; $100min - 300max) and I'd always play after a workout. I'd have e/c in my system and all the regulars knew my shakes were normal. All the newer or come and go players always figured I was trying to bluff at a pot or held a big hand. I made a lot of money off of that.

Wouldn't being doped up on Prozac be the ultimate poker drug? Doesn't it make you pretty much apathetic?

apathy does not lend itself to successful anything, IMO....except assassinations.

my mothers husband use to be a morgage broker and quit to become a pro poker player. he makes about the same

Yes, but they arn't talking about "some game at school," they are talking about professional poker playing for serious cash. These guys can read you like a book, and thats what makes them so great.

Are you trying to school me in poker? I play online for a living. The guys I played with weren't ****ty players. If you haven't noticed, most of the big names in poker now are in the 22-28 year old age range. And I'm not talking about Ivey, Matusow (who is a terrible NLH player by the way), Negraneu, Brunson, Chan, etc. sbrugy, PA, and durr are the top in the game now. Ranging in age from 20-27. Negraneu is by far in the top five poker players in the world but you make it sound as though these guys are unbeatable and that's simply not the case. - And if you were a poker player at all, you would understand that the size of the game (cash involved) has nothing to do with the players abilities. I know plenty of great players that simply don't have the bankroll to be playing at higher stakes. How do you think the well known players started? They weren't all millionares right off the bat. They started by grinding low limits and worked their way up. Most of the players you see on High Stakes Poker or the other shows on TV don't even play the "big game" on a regular basis. There is no profit in it. It's all marketing and hubris. They make their living playing fish, and there aren't too many fish sitting at a 300/600nlh table (with the exception of Gold, Matusow, some oil tycoons and nits like Hellmuth - yes, I went there). As a poker player, you feed off of weaker players. When it's a chess game, there isn't too much money being made. It's just being passed around.

It was simply a funny thing I noticed about the new guys at the table (not new to poker); and Ivey would be just as confused as they were until he sat with me for a while. That's the only reason I brought it up.

HU for rolls?

Gotta love the poker jive. Irish, cool to hear that you are making it online.

Phenibut+ alcohol = Looser play, loosens the table up, betters your image as long as you can keep your mind, while subtly letting yourself go a little bit

Caffeine, nicotine, l-tyrosine = Increases your table aggression, have to keep yourself from going to far with a hand that was good pre-flop, but due to the action, is **** after the board hits, lose sympathy for other players (you don't feel bad at all about snapping that old lady next to you for all her chips).
