"Let me ask you this..."

Is anybody else getting sick of that phrase??? I hear it constantly, CNN, NPR, the local news anchors, day time talk-show hosts, everywhere!!

You don't have to ask me first if you can ask me something. Just ask the question for gods sake!! Your question is not going to be so important, that it needs a preceeding question/statement.

If you haven't noticed this in society, just listen for a day or two.

Ok, sorry, just ranting. Carry on amongst yourselves...

"Let me tell you something"... yeah, any kind of qualifying phrase before the actual statement is a conversation device, that should be used sparingly, if at all !

"obviously, ..." is a word most media types use to allow themselves time to think through what they're about to say, some folks use it twice in the same sentence

Not for nothing, but for what its worth, You can take that to the bank !:run:

LOL...an ex of mine used to say "not for nothing" all the time!

Another friend always says, "in any case...", then goes on with whatever she was saying. And I swear she'll say it at least 10 times in any ten minutes of conversation.

I personally hate the term "Nothing personal but . . . " I've never ever heard a compliment come after those words.

Misuse of words or expressions:

Wrong: irregardless, Correct: regardless

Wrong: "I could care less" - so what you are saying is you care but that there is room to care less than you already do care.

Correct: "I could not care less" - what I am saying is that I have less than or equal to zero care and that I could not possibly care any less than I already do.
