Would you let me bounce at your club?

I've been thinking about a career change.

Club Bouncer would be cool. I think I'm good for it at 5'9" and 155 lbs. I'm built like a dancer and like to read Philip K. **** in my spare time. Think I should go for it?

or...

Get into diesel engine repair.

:wtf:

hell, i have two bouncers about your size at the bar i work at... as long as you know some mma, or how to wrestle we'll hire someone of your size.

Okay okay, I exaggerated. I actually weigh 160lb. :run:

Yeah, I have MMA experience. I've seen Bas Rutten's "Lethal Self Defense" movie like 3 times. That makes me :bruce1:
I also watch Cops amlost everyday.

Seriously though, it seems to me that bouncing is all about having the size to intimidate... which is definitely out of the cards for me. Even with anabolic steroids I probably wouldn't get above 190lb just cause I do have a small frame. That's not to say I'm not strong... since size isn't coming to me I usually train for strength and power. But that lends me to increased dexterity and speed. In terms of MMA, I do have some real experience and pick up on technique very quickly. I can usually drop guys 50 lbs bigger than me without too much effort.

I'm looking for a side job that would keep me active and satisfy my T desires. I figured either be a bouncer or work on diesel engines (plus diesel mechanics make BIG money).

i've been working at bars part time for the last five years as a bouncer, and im at 186lb currently. i started after i left college when i was 20, and i had put on a ton of weight while i was in school, i was probably up to 225lb at my heaviest, then dropped down... but thats besides the point, in those five years i worked at three of the hottest bars at this beach resort area i lived at. when i had my hand in hiring guy i would always try and get a few of the smaller guys who knew a little mma or wrestling. mostly because they where the ones who would work, and the big steroid guys we would hire would usually be getting drunk on their first night or hitting a drunk when they didn't need to.

like i said im only 186, and i've had to throw out the LT for the giants(mind you i needed another guy to help out, but the guy is 310lbs). usually a good bar/club will have you work with another guy, or atleast have you within eye contact of another guy... so that way if anything does happen you can have someone to help you out. all in all its a fun gig to do part time, and even if you have no game what so ever you can get tons of women doing it. of course you will make a metric **** ton of money doing the mechanics job.

I've tried to get a job as a bouncer. I'm a good sized guy 5'7 185lbs, not big, but you definately would know I workout. Didn't work for me at all. The idea behind a bouncer is they're big enough no one will WANT to mess with them. I have seen bouncers who were scared of me though, but they're generally **** bars I used to hang out at. They were also like 6'2 with a little beer belly and didn't look like they picked up a weight in their life. It's more about intimidation. People say I'm intimdating looking, but how can you really be so at 5'7?

I have had friends that were bouncers too. My advice is you get a job as one, don't be overly forceful unless you have to be. You might have your ass covered inside, but outside, in the parking lot is a whole other game. You aren't bullet proof and you can get jumped. I've seen crap like that before, because a guy used more force then he had to when dealing with a drunk. Drunk goes outside gets a knife/gun or calls his friends. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I bounced for a while. While it never hurts to have training, its not very often you will get into an actual fight. Big guys are preffered for intimidation, to act as a human wall, and to literally drag out drunks.
When I bounced, I was 6' 210 with a solid background in Thai Boxing and BJJ, none of which I had to use.
I honestly feel you are much better off becoming a mechanic, bouncing is not as great as everyone (including myself at one point) makes it out to be.

Don't do it, i know allot of bouncers through MMA and let me tell you they aren't happy with there jobs and thier's a huge risk factor with limited rewards. Not to mention, you probably wouldn't want to put it on your resume, considering most people consider bouncers to be no more then payed thugs.

I didn't... I just started reading his stuff. I like Neil Stephenson and heard the Phillip Dlck was the original cyber-punk author. So far I'm about 1/2 way through The Penultimate Truth. I like it. His style is really interesting.

Resume's not a problem... I like my job with MN. I'm just looking for something to do on the side.

Yes he was. Next chance you get, purchase A Scanner Darkly. There was recently a movie based on it I believe, in a very interesting style.

Yes, I haven't read the book but I enjoyed the movie. It was done using cell shading & rotoscope animation techniques. Filmed with real actors and locations, but then having effects applied to make it appear more animated / drawn.

In any case, let's keep the bouncing convo going, I've never seen anyone 5'9" ~ 160lbs bouncing before, so I am really interested in the number of you talking about it

The entire movie was shot live action then scanned and inked by animators. Which is what gives the fluid feel to the film. The bouncer job depends on the bar. At your size though, you'll have a tough time getting the job. All though once your there it sounds like you'd do fine.

I was a bouncer for awhile, yes i am a girl...LOL 5'11, 140 at the time, was fun, not that I could handle the big drunk guys but i could handle the annoying drunk girls, and i also know karate (never had to use it) but always good to know.........i think in some cases, my friend who got me the job used to use me as the "lure" to get the guys out of the club, thinking i was just a girl at the club.....but the fun wore off to many 3am nights for me......didnt mix well with grad school..........

So good luck :)

No I would not hire a small guy like you to bounce that mixed with your ZERO knowledge of martial arts/wrestling makes you an ideal canidate to NOT BOUNCE!

I'm also emotionally fragile. What you just said has made me cry. :(

Now I'm gonna go listen to some emo music and put on eye-liner.

Who knows, you could be a natural ass kicker. I had a friend that was about 5'5" 160, and he could hang with pretty much anyone. It was a lot of fun to watch some 6'4" 250 pound oaf get rocked by this little ball of dynamite. This guy had no martial arts/wrestling training, he just loved to fight.

LOL, don't go slitting your wrist now...
but seriously I think you gotta be 250+ to be a good bouncer because like another guy said it's about being intimidating by looking at you. Hey look I am 235 and I wouldn't hire myself to bounce.

I guess bouncing is a lot about moving people more than fighting so you want to be a lineman more than a fighter. I guess the average guy is intimidated by a big huge guy, but personally I'm not intimidated by big guys at all. It's the somewhat average sized athletic I don't give a **** guys that I watch out for.

The guys to watch out for are the MMA/wrestlers out there because in a one on one fight these guys will come out on top. But don't write off size alltogether they have weight classes in combat sports for a very good reason, fighting a guy with 30pounds on you is gonna be tougher than fighting someone your own size it is extra weight that they can throw around and use to their advantage.

MMA fighters are a great representation of who are the toughest fighters. Take a look at the best in the world Fedor, Crocop, Nog, Wand, etc etc. None are very big. Big guys can't fight for the most part. Although there are always exceptions.

As one of my friends once said "you don't **** with the littlest guy or the biggest guy in the group, they're the most dangerous guys there." Its simple, little guys know how to fight because they have to since they seem like easy targets normally. Don't mess with the biggest guy because, he may be the worst fighter, but a good hit will do a lot of damage.
