Open collar, business casual -- v-neck or crew neck dress shirt?

I work at an investment bank. In the past, I have not worn undershirts so have not had this problem. However, I am moving to NYC and the weather requires undershirts. What do you all do? I see guys all the time in the office with an open collar and a white undershirt showing. My girlfriend thinks that looks stupid and advised me to buy v-necks. I am afraid, though, that the v-neck may be visible when I wear light-colored dress shirts?

I know this sounds really gay and all, but what does everyone else do? I just bought a bunch of very nice dress shirts and want to present myself in the best possible light. Cheers.

Not gay at all man. When you're dropping bucks on business attire it pays to get it right. Maybe V-neck with a couple stand by regular for the light colored problem?

I know what you mean. I've never wore a v-neck before until this weekend. I felt wierd, I'm use to the round neck t-shirts. But it's just a shirt who cares really.

Sounds very gay!! Jk, I personally think v necks look womanish. Go for the reg. white t shirt, or you could possibly throw in a black t as well.....

Good thing about uniforms. I only have to buy underarmor shirts and regular T-shirts.

I went to Wal-Mart and bought 6 Fruit of the Loom v-necks and will get 6 crew-necks tomorrow. Guess I'll just give it a shot and if they both fail and I need higher quality stuff, well, it's only $15 bucks.

Rather than the V-Neck, Id go with an A-Shirt (wife beater). Accomplishes the same thing (no collar showing) and doesnt look wierd.

Doesnt really matter, just think the tank has a 'cooler' appeal to it. Like 1930's mafia, tommy gun appeal. The V-neck always struck me as 1970's porn-ish:D

I dont like the v-necks. I wear a regular collar tee under my button down shirts (open collar). i think it looks fine. white matches mostly everything.

I wear the regular collar but have them in varying colors. White, black and tan mostly. Depends on the rest of the ensemble.

Where do you get your undershirts from? I find that Calvin Klein undershirts, while they look nice, are not long enough to tuck in. Better for wearing out.

Well, they are more of a solid color fitted T. A 55% cotton 45% rayon, Perry Ellis I believe. I have a couple that I found at Walmart that are a 95% cotton 5% spandex that feel nice as well. Your gonna drop a little more dough on them but they will last longer.

I work for a Investment Management/Fund Management organization (billion dollar org) and all of the men in the office wear dress shirts with tank-tops (wife beaters) underneath and leave the toppest button un-buttoned. Of course if we have clients coming in then full Suits are worn.

I love wearing wife beaters, but I got dark skin and it looks foolish because you can clearly see the outline under most shirts. I wish I could pull it off.

You're right...it only works with some shirts. Most likely it doesn't work with white shirts. But with blue and others, gray or white WBs will not show.
