    Symptoms of Umbilical Hernia

For those who have had this or may know, what symptoms occur with this other than a knot around you navel?

You may not have any symptoms besides a bulge. Pain isn't the best indicator. Mine and others I know have had hernias and experienced no pain whatsoever. If you have a bulge GET IT CHECKED. If your intestine gets strangulated(sp?) you can have some pretty serious complications. And if you let it go and it blows through shredding the abdominal wall that can lead to a more painful and longer recovery. Better safe than sorry.

Yeah, I don't know what to do at this point b/c I have had it checked out already. I have had my doctor look at it, and have had a CAT scan. And my doctor said 50/50 chance hernia/cyst. And the radiologist said that nothing showed up. Something is definitely there, so I don't know what the heck he is talking about?

My doctor seemed to give me the impression that I shouldn't even worry about it, but said if I wanted to look into it more to see a surgeon. With me being a cynic, I hate to do this b/c I feel they will say I need surgery either way so they get paid.

The bump is not reduceable, but my doc says that if it was a strangulated hernia, I would definitely know it b/c it would hurt like no other and would have also killed me within 3 days.

The bump is not squishy either. It is a pretty firm knot if I had to describe the texture.

If it is firm...hmmm...I don't know it should be somewhat soft. Go to another doc bro. That seems a little weird. And they aren't just going to cut you open then sew you back up and say all done just to make some money.

And if it gets strangulated the area will get gang green (sp?) and you will have a chance to get to the doc before you drop dead. The fact that your doc doesn't know if it is a hernia or a cyst would raise some question of this guys knowledge in the area.
Look up a specialist and don't wait long.
