Avatar porn bug anyone?

I used to feel that the lack of avatar porn on Anabolicminds was another sign of this sites overall maturity and the prestige that it holds over most of the other anabolic/body building forums out there. Lately, however, it has been creeping into more and more posts.

I realize that there is an option to turn off avatars but the feature is nice because it allows you to connect a picture with the name of other users on the forum.

I just adblock the porn avatars that do pop up here and there so it isnt a huge deal for me, I am just curious if anyone else feels that the recent influx of avatar porn seems to be a step back in the exceptional community standards that we have come to enjoy at anabolicminds.com.

Not to deny any personal responsibility in this matter of course, but I really don't think it's any less mature to have a gorgeous woman showing some skin in your avatar than any other picture, be it a comic book character or some other kind of art. Maturity is in the post, not the avatar, and I love looking at beautiful women. I understand your point about work though. My own avatars could get me in trouble. I just push my browser window a little to the left so avatars are blocked out when I'm at work. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want hard core porn with penetration in various positions in my avatar. And of course, I don't think any of us technically are supposed to be posting or reading while we're at work anyway.

It's up to Bobo in the end, what he says is what goes here, it's his board. And if he nixes the porn, I'll find some other interesting way to express myself. I hope he at least always allows clothed women to appear. Bikini shots are nice.

The maturity issue is completely subjective IMO. As CBD said..it lies in the person's posting and actions rather than the avatar. I have the venerable Wolverine as my avatar. I could be mistaken for a 12 year old nerd instead of the 33 year old nerd that I am.

Of no literary or artistic value is... subjective. Whether or not the work's primary purpose of causing sexual arousal is bad or immature is... subjective. Perhaps I'm missing your point. I'd assume it expresses about me what that defimition expresses about the writer of the dictionary you got it from. I personally find sexual images of women relaxing more often than I find them arousing, but only certain types of images, similar to those you find in my avatars. I also have a boatload of Luis Royo prints around me right now. Usually his artwork portrays women in various degrees of nudity wielding swords, bows and arrows, fighting or mating with various men and/or fantasy creatures.

Perhaps it expresses about me that I have a healthy appreciation for the female form, and as more than a few women have complimented me on not being an asshole, and have come to me to get me to talk to this or that guy I happen to know because they were sick of being stared at and feeling as if they were being undressed in public, or even hit on way too hard and blatantly, I'd say I keep that appreciation in its proper perspective.

Most of my friends are women. They're easier to talk and generally more pleasant to be around I find. Guess I'm just one of those guys.

CDB...I'm not judging you or criticizing. I get where you are coming from and am of a similar open mindedness. I have been in the professional work place for about 20 yrs now. The PC work environment no longer tolerates Snap-On calanders, posters, etc or anything that is considered sexually oriented or exploitive. This goes in both gender direction. I have been to many training seminars that address this issue. Harrasment is a very very fine line that can easily be crossed without intention.

But yes, it is a private board and the owner sets the rules.

Well, the porn style of avatars has been a problem in the past, and MatthewD usually has something to say about it. I personally don't have a problem with it except when I go online while at work. Then I need to be careful. You may want to hit up Matt and find out if there is a rule that has been buried in the threads.

Porn should be kept in the porn section. I always get everybody's avatars and ALL images that I view stored in my computer somehow. If you open up a pic in Outlook Express, you can see all the pics that your comp has ever viewed saved right ine there...pretty irritating...

I agree with just about everything said here. I, for one, have been a little worried about logging on at work due to the Avatars. So I've recently had to stop checking AM while at work because of this
I was actually going to PM CDB and ask him to at least have clothed women in his Avatar so that I could log on at work. But I figured that I would be told to pound sand and didn't want to start any arguments. I thought that I was in the minority and that he has the right to do whatever he wants as long as he doesn't break the rules....so I decided against it.

As previously stated, it's Bobo's call. If it goes to a vote, I would prefer more "work friendly" Avatars.........(I have nothing against having CDB share his pics in the adult section though )

Doesn't bother me, I actually like the porn/girl avatars. I'm careful and quick to hide my browser at work no matter what site I'm viewing. Anyway, just wanted to say that out of curiosity, I just tried turning off avatars and sigs, and holy ****, threads are WAY faster. I really do wish that we didn't have the "porn" type AV's Not that it shows immaturity or anything that.. but it does show a bit of class... believe it or not we do have women on the site guys and some might feel that the site is hostile towards women with these types of AV's... personally, I have children.. and I really don't want them looking over my shoulder seeing some ladies boobs shakin' in an AV.. especially my little girl...
Then as SJA said, there are the workplace issues.. with these types of AV's some of us, me for one, can't come by the site at work.. but as SJA said, that is the reason for the adult section...
As for the rule, there has never been a hard and fast rule but we have "encouraged" everyone to take the high road and have "clothed" AV's

I'm sure 99% of the guys on this board are heterosexual and enjoy a beautiful woman, but I think there are, as some have put it, more tasteful ways to express yourself and represent yourself (as an avatar is designed to do) on the board.

I get where you're coming from, but then if we were all for following the rules we wouldn't be on these boards at work, but we are. It's easy to deal with though. Push the browser to the left or turn off avatars for a bit, like me. Maintains propriety without denying access to the posts.

Please don't mistake me for a prude. You had some smokin' avatars that were of clothed chicks. The human body is beautiful when dipicted in taste and with class. Your avatars are not distasteful or unclassy...but there are some buck naked betties that cross line that I am willing to take. Yes I can run with the avatar mode off...but then I would miss some of the other hotties like Rufus:

Most of the avatars don't bug me. I never saw anyone with a pornographic one (i'm sure there has been). But, I browse the board in the privacy of my home. And if a girl puts up an avatar of a dude, i dont care either. If we can have chicks, the women can put up guys. I don't have to stare at it if I don't want to

I've got no problem recognizing if a guy is good looking. Too often guys confuse recognition of a good looking guy with sexual interest, they ain't the same. Look at us, we're looking at pictures of guys' pecs half the time and critiquing them. Doesn't mean you want to nail the guy, but you sure can appreciate the look he's got and the work it took to get there. You'll find in fact, the more you open up to that point of view, the more women will appreciate your point of view overall, as that's one of things that seems to annoy women universally. Tons of full frontal nudity for women in the movies, but almost none of guys. That kind of double standard tends to annoy them. The more you learn about what makes guys good looking to women, the better your game gets.

As far as the avatars go. It is a way to express yourself...in a decent manner of course. I don't mind the naked chicks, but it is a double standard in that I doubt anyone here would accept a nude male in the avatar. Also, some people do have wifes that take offense. I know mine got pissed the first few times she saw half naked pics of women on the monitior. And there are others who have small children running around the house. Do you really want your children to see these pictures?

I think this is an interesting subject matter. I would never want to offend anyone, not my style sexually. But the young lady in my avator has told me on numerous times "Go to the gym." It is a source of... motivation. On the other hand, I would never want to discourage a women from feeling at home or welcome here.

Until otherwise warrented, I will search for slightly more clothed, tastefully done encouraging photos.
