Have done quite a bit...the best thing I can tell you is dont be discouraged if an agency turns you down....or a few for that matter...its the nature of the business to not sugar coat rejection......just get some good headshots/bodyshots from a trusted photographer who has worked with models before and plug away until you find a "home" Good luck........
BTW....Where are you looking to do this?

Candle25 was doing some modeling. However, I don't think he comes around here much anymore.

I model for myself in the mirror. I have to suck in the gut, though, which kinda sucks.

Rejection I'm not worried about. If it's supposed to work out with me and a particular job/agency then it will. I guess I'll have to move to New York to do it as that's where the biggest agencies are (although some of them have offices in Atlanta, 3 hours from me now). After I was scouted at ProScout (didn't spend the $600 on the conference - wise move) I sent some shots to many agencies and John Babin from BOSS said if I leaned out a bit more he'd send me a contract. That was a long time ago because only recently have I been very very serious about losing fat (going well btw). What agency did you work for? How'd that work out? Also, I thought that if you get signed to an agency then they'll help you build a portfolio, sometimes handling much of the expense. Am I wrong on this?Originally Posted by Brock Landers

Brock .. just outta curiosity .. are they ever interested in guys who are 5'8 with body builder physiques? .. or is it really just for tall guys with a lot less muscle

I do some fitness modeling although I think that the requirements are probably a lot different than those for a company like Boss. In the fitness industry, you don't necessarily have to be that tall. I'm about 5'10, 200lbs. I was simply at the right place at the right time when I got discovered.

Who'd you sign with D (with zero posts?)?
04-29-2005, 09:59 PM
Just registered with the site...hence, no posts. Not sure why this seems to indicate that a person doesn't have any experience with training, dieting, etc. but I digress.
I have not signed on with any particular agency. I've gotten most of the work on my own. Seems like a business of who you know, so once you make a few contacts, you can get work pretty steadily if you look for it.

If you're looking for an agency for fitness modeling, strengthnet.com was recommended to me by an employee over at Muscle and Fitness. That's one that I've been considering signing on with. No need to move or relocate as all of the work and referrals come from online.

wranglergirl - Why didn't you keep doing it? You're close to NY; why not try to get signed there?

hit up all the Commercial Agencys and non 'fashion' agencies in New York. They have open calls once or twice a week. It helps to have a portfolio with you but not neccessary. For all mail in pictures, a polliroid camera is recommended.

I was discovered by a scout and did some headshots with an agency back in Cali. Since I was in the military at the time (constantly deployed) I never really followed up with it. The thing is is you just have to get out there and sell yourself like Brock said. You get rejected, so what, move on.

Yeah my dad's friend has been trying to get me to move to Miami when/if I start modeling because he saw some special on male escorts and how they make an assload of money.

Hey Bean, where are you in AL?
05-06-2005, 09:58 AM
I've actually been thinking about doing the same thing eventually, maybe in a year or so. Hopefully by then I'll be about 5'10", 195, 7%, that's what I'm shooting for anyway. I've got the eyes to do modeling, just not the bod (yet). =)
Have any of you done anything online? Or have any experience with that?

From the people I've talked to, one of the most important things to remember is that you shouldn't ever have to pay an agency anything. As for online stuff, if they charge you to post shots (almost all of them do), your money is better spent taking snapshots and mailing those directly to agencies. I don't know of many/any agencies that go to sites like models.com to find models. They just tell you to mail them shots and your measurements.

I am working with a fitness/physique model here in Dallas, TX. He has been on the cover of various magazines 15+ times I believe and is sponsored by various companies. He approached me ablout taking me as a project about a month ago, and the results thus far are staggering. I will be tweaking some things a bit over the next few weeks and will have my photoshoot with his photographer in about a month - month and a half or so. Currently, I am 6'0", 217-218 and 7% bfat. Obviously, this is trying to get into the same industry, fitness/phuysique modeling as a side gig (at least for now). I will shoot over some pics in a couple weeks......
