V Neck vs. Crew Neck

Hey, members of AM!

Myself and a friend have been working to start up a t-shirt company aimed towards gym/fitness enthusiasts. We have a lot of awesome designs, but want to keep it simple for our launch next month with just one design. However, we are torn between whether or not we ought to print on t shirts with a traditional crew neck or print on v necks. Both styles are shown below, respectively.



So as consumers, which would you all prefer? They are likely going to be 50/50 cotton/polyester shirts, so it is not as though they are intended solely for exercising. The choice is yours whether or not you wanna wear it to train in, just wear around town, cut off the sleeves and do yardwork in it, or whatever else you choose! But we wanna know if you would prefer one neck style over the other? Which would you be more likely to wear?

Thanks for the responses, fellas. I have a couple shirts with a V cut that is hardly noticeable, and I must say I am still a bit hesitant to wear them at times too. I know some people seem to like them though. I've been looking around at the gym in attempts to pay attention to the people that we would technically be marketing to, and it is not often that I see dudes rocking a V neck in the gym.

I appreciate the input, keep it comin!

Put it this way. You're out to make money. Everybody where's crew necks at some point in time. There's not a single guy that says "No thanks, I won't buy it because it's not a V-Neck" You can always produce the V-Neck version next.

V neck all the way! Crew shirts are for non muscular people to hide their small chest without any definition. I love v necks especially gym shirts.

Also, like Sean said. There are a lot more guys who won't wear a shirt because of a vneck than guys that wont wear a crew neck.

I think it's because more designer clothes make crews than v necks. I'm sure if their was a choice v neck will be chosen. Every time I go shopping for plain t's the v necks are more expensive and are always sold out. Crew shirts are always on sale or never out of stock.

I'm from NY so idk how it is in other states.

UA, Nike, Adidas, etc. All sell vneck options as well, and I never see anyone wearing any of them.

Always see them wearing crew necks. I do, however, see tons of scrawny skater kids wearing vnecks and skinny jeans.

It's funny to hear all the different opinions, which is why we thought it would be appropriate to ask! Ultimately, we want to know so that we can decide which style to go with when we launch with our initial batch of shirts. Thereafter though, we hope to eventually make both an option to make everyone happy.

We would definitely be willing to take suggestions for designs consumers would like to see, but we would probably not take a design just to make one shirt for a single buyer. With the supplies we have, that wouldn't be at all cost effective... For now.

Although further down the road, we are hoping to get other supplies that would make this a possibility! In fact, I will definitely keep that in mind now that you mention it cuz that could be an awesome business move. From a business perspective it would definitely be appealing for consumers to have their own unique shirts that are one-of-a-kind.

Ideally though, you'll be happy with the designs we will offer

Well I was talking about it as in for a business.

I would need a smaller amount for employees/trainers.

But would want a larger amount for members.

I'm beginning the process of opening a training facility and I'm trying to put all the littler things together as soon as possible so that I can focus on the larger issues more single-mindedly.

Strength and conditioning of athletes.

Its got a good bit of time before I end up opening it, but I plan to begin training under the name before I open the facility itself.

A detailed plan is certainly always good. You know what they say; fail to plan, plan to fail!

I don't hate them I just think the way people wear them and have made them a hipster trend is lame and that's ruined it for the normal dudes that just like the way they look. Plain old V neck Hanes are comfortable to wear and a great classic casual look but now if I wear one I'm compared to some 23 yr old dick with a waxed mustache, skinny jeans , a silly haircut and bowling shoes on like I'm trying to live up to some wack trend. I've said it before and ill say it again , hipsters ruin everything!

Agreed. Took me awhile to find out only v necks I will look decent in are the very small v neck (not deep).

I really like V-necks without the deep cut. I wear plain v-neck shirts with jeans often, but they don't go down too far. Adds a little versatility to the closet.
