You may not get a totally accurate reading with a caliper, where you may be 9% and the caliper gives you 10%. The main thing I find helpful is taking accurate measurements everytime. The more you use it the better you'll get. When I competed I started off taking my measurements 5 times and then averaging them. By the the time I got close to my show I could take them 3-4 times and get the exact measurements every time. So even though you may be off a % or 2 you can still keep pretty good track of where you are at. I've got a Fat Track 2 that I have used for awhile and do fine with it.
I got my set from Parrillo back 10-12 years ago. They work great after you learn how to use them, how to pinch the skin, and where to pinch. Regular skin calipers run about $30.00. See them listed on eBay all the time.
