I work in the field for a company that's based out of Baltimore, and have an upcoming interview for a job at the corporate office. The HQ is in Baltimore, MD (I don't want to give away the specific location) and am getting myself prepared should I be offered the job and accept it.

Some questions I have are:

1) What are the city/state taxes like?
2) Do you enjoy the city? - Pros/Cons
3) What are some of the best areas to live? - I'm married and we hope to have children at some point, so their safety is a concern of mine.
4) Do you feel the state limits overreach your civil liberties? If so, how does this impact your life in MD?
5) What is the cost of living like overall? - Food, energy, etc.
6) How is the entertainment/night-life for a married couple? - My wife and I enjoy pubs, jazz clubs, concerts, etc.
7) Overall, what's your take on the people in and around the city?

Thanks!

Maryland sucks. Baltimore is the worst. The taxes are high, the women are trashy and most people here are Obama brown nosers. We don't even have the right to conceal carry in the state. Our governor is a socialist piece of trash and so are our congressmen atleast in my district. Don't move here trust me you don't want to. Oh and Baltimore city has one of the highest crime rates in the country. Hell if you're ever in the city you can't even take a piss because you have to pay to use the bathroom. You'll be better off moving on the Virginia side of the Virginia/Maryland border and driving to work.

These all sound like things I was afraid of, and all reasons why I'm hesitant to make the move.

Although, aren't your concealed carry laws (relatively) more relaxed now? - Or are you speaking about Baltimore's restrictions and not Maryland? I've looked into their laws somewhat, but not in detail. - At least you have the Castle Doctrine now!

I've committed myself to crushing the interview, but it will certainly take some serious $$$ to get me to take the offer.

Well we almost got there. There was a law suit and a judge ruled in favor of making MD a shall issue state, but it has been blocked so it may or may not pass by next year, I hope it does. Isn't it nice to live in a state where you get to choose between getting arrest for trying to defend yourself or getting killed? Personally I'm going to carry regardless. I'm a grown 24 year old man, but hell I don't want to walk outside at night without some protection, even when I get bigger and stronger. You can read more about the case on this site.

Oh yeah also, I don't know if your single or not man, but like I said the women here are bottle of the barrel, in Baltimore for the most part. Western Maryland isn't bad I heard, but You don't want to get with a Baltimore girl.

I'm married, but I'll pass the information along to other males considering a move to BAL. :)

Thanks for the response.

It's certainly a shame that you guys have such strict gun laws in such a high-crime area, but it seems to be the going rate. Go figure, huh? No legal carry = high crime. Who would have thought? Ugh. Same deal with my hometown Chicago.

There are good places to live in MD and still be able to commute easily enough to Bmore. A lot of it is trashy though. I live in DC area, but the Mrs went to school in the Dundalk area of Bmore. School is decent, but the area is trash. Can't claim to know MD's gun laws, but Va has great gun laws. CCW is easy to get. If you were to live in the Va side and commute to Bmore it would take about 1 to 1.5hrs each way. That is how long it took my wife.

Well, I was sitting and waiting for the interview phone call; after twenty minutes I decided to check my work email. There it was. Just shortly prior to the scheduled time, I was told that "something has come up" and the interview would have to be rescheduled for "sometime next week." - No dates, no times, nothing.

Perhaps this is the last bit of information I was waiting for. It tells me how little they value my time, how unprofessional the environment is, and that the recruiter simply doesn't understand the process. Interviews go both ways.

Needless to say I'm very disappointed. I don't see any reason for cancelling my interview less than an hour out for anything other than disorganization. I could have at least been extended the courtesy of a phone-call to notify me.

Sorry to hear that, IC. It must be a real pain in the ass to experience that.

Anyways, on topic, I agree with the general sentiment here - Baltimore sucks. I make the trip there every year or every other year for a concert up there, but it's a nightmare going to that place. There is a plethora of meth-heads littered all over the streets, and one of the main roads through the financial sectors of the city is a strip of trashy strip clubs and more street drug addicts.

It has the amenities and attractions most other big cities have, but it comes at the cost of all these social problems/crime. I wouldn't live there, although as many have suggested commuting is an option. Sorry for only providing the negatives.

I appreciate the honesty. Sounds like a place I don't want to live, which makes the decision if offered the job a lot easier.

One of my contractors at Hopkins used to live across the border in PA , she did so for gun favorable laws as per her. If you are married etc, VA is very good to live in, I like the thought of raising the little nippers in Arlington..

I'd love to live in VA, but with this job the commute would be unacceptable. Just isn't going to happen.

I had a company in VA interested in me. Went through the interview, super excited, things were going great...and then they cut all hiring. :(
