Long story short.. Went to an orthopedic/sports doctor, and got x rays of my shoulder, doc says I need an MRI to confirm a tear in my labrum.(cartiledge that forms around the socket, connects to the bicep tendon)

I've been having a small pain deep down in my shoulder, more towards the front.. Is pretty much only present on overhead presses and bench. Well, pretty much any chest. I was going to run my SuperDrol cycle this month but I have not been able to do chest in 3 weeks, due to fear of making my condition worse. I don't want to run any cycle until this is better...

When this first started happening, I thought it was my form. So I rested for a week and when I went back at a very light weight and had my buddy watch my form, it still happened. It happened when trying to do push ups. So with that said, I havent touched chest.

I have still been doing t bar rows, dead lifts, lat pulls, lat rows, etc... No pain when I work my back.. OR even when I do raises for my shoulders. I can do facepulls and work my rear delts no pain. But its only when I push forward or up...

Has anyone experienced anything similar? The option the doctor gave me was surgery, he said it's a small tear and the surgery would be minor, and that I would be able to be back in the gym within 6-10 weeks. Does this sound right? I really don't know what to do, Im sick of not being able to work out how I want to, but am smart enough to not work through the pain. Thanks for any input.

Bad advice: i took a PH cycle and my sholder recovered to a point of no pain. Sadly about 2 months later, i'm back to square one.

If you have insurance to cover the minor surgery, i would go for it.

Had the same problem while playing college football... my trainer advised surgery or taking 6 months off from doing chest... I took a few months then started doing light db work while placing different boards under the bench to create a slight incline. Eventually I found a sweet spot at about a one inch incline that allowed me to train without pain.. my bench was back up into the 400s but after injuring myself again its smarter to go higher rep range if bb and physic is the goal. Hope this helps... I know a few guys who had the surgery most recovered rather quick and with no major issues.

I will probably end up going the safe route, maybe getting a second opinion then going through with surgery. Until then, Im probably gonna be hitting legs and back pretty hard.. Nothing that puts direct pressure on that part of my shoulder.

I had a SLAP Tear (Superior Labrum from Anterior to Posterior) and Rotator Cuff tear that had to be corrected with surgery. Mine would "lock" in a certain position. I could do push ups, but the second I would rotate my arm upward, it would lock. The entire process took 8 months from surgery date until the end of rehabilitation. My injury was extremely painful and debilitating, so surgery was a must. Dr. James Andrews’ under study did mine; although, James did come in and look everything over before they closed me up. Overall, I am glad that I had it fixed so I could move forward toward my goals.

How long ago was your surgery? See the problem is not when I rotate my arm. It actually does not bother me when I do any shoulder isolation, its soley on PRESSING motions... It "bothers" me but its not real pain.

I want to get it taken care of however I dont want to go under the knife if I don't need to.

I think it was around 2003.

A tear will get worse unless you completely isolate it in a sling for an extended period of time, and even then, the likelihood of it healing properly is slim. And plus, scar tissue will hinder much of the tear, making it much more painful.

join the club, at least u went to a doctor to get it checked out. both of mine are bad. my right sometimes hurts like hell in the middle of the night and cant fall asleep till like 2 hours later. found out it was due to dips and a shoulder workout. pain went away after a month of not doing those workouts but comes and goes sometimes. my left is just a mystery, random pains at random times. and every time i rotate it backwards, it cracks no matter what. i started taking 1.5 grams of glucosamine and MSM daily since last month and some pain went away. i say if ur insured, get it taken care of ASAP

Hey bro i am in the same boat I seprated my shoulder about 2 years ago, I started lifting last summer but i ran into the same problem after about 4 months of lifting i had to stop due horrible pain in my AC joint I stopped lifting completly till about March of this year and i had hardly any pain except when doing flys but it started going away once my shoulder got used to it.... Well after a cycle of SD and Epi I noticed toward the end of my cycle My shoulder became very sensitive and painful just like before i took a week off to let my body recover but still the pain remains I baught a shoulder brace it seems to help alot except on chest days I still have alot of pain in my shoulder and when i bench there is always a crunching and poping noise in my shoulder or grinding I am supplementing with Glucosamine but I really havnt noticed to much of a difference My bench has suffered drastically I was benching 300x6 now i am down to 250 x8 because if i go above that weight the pain is unbearable :(

serious guys if your hearing noises and feeling stuff in there you need to see the doctor. When your 60-70-80years old and brittle and breaking it every time you move, you will be wishing you got it taking care of. If you got insurance you have no reason why not to.

my MRI proved the doctor wrong. No tear in my labrum. Was just bad bursitis... No real injury in my shoulder.

And the small popping sounds I get have been confirmed to be early signs of arthritis. Something I'll have to deal with and adjust as I get older.

Thanks for all the feedback, I didnt realize there were so many responses to this thread. Im on 10g fish oil daily and animal flex, and it has kept me from hearing any popping in the last 3-4 months, thankfully. When I'm hurting bad (normally just from goin hard in the gym) I use skeletal balm but only from time to time. Normally the oral supps do the trick.

Thanks again everyone.

My shoulders sounds like a old wood floor!! They crack loud and sound gross. U say animal flex helped the cracking stop?! I'm on 6g fish oil a day... I'm gonna bump it up to 10.

yeah... I ran a superdrol cycle and my joints felt like they were gonna break so I ran Cissus rx, animal flex, and 10g of fish oil.

10g is a hefty dose, but youre not only lubricating your joints but taking in a good quantity of omegas :)

I just want the cracking to stop. My doc don't know what's wrong he just says I need to stop lifting lmao I'll wash my mouth out with buckshot before I stop lifting! Haha JK but really... Maybe tendinitis. Best treatment for me has been my chiropractor (same one Jim thome goes to ;)

Wow my doctor told me the cracking is most likely prelimenary sign of arthritis... You seein a specialist or just a general practicioner? That could be your problem..

Well if you have insurance I'd see an orthopedic surgeon, mine told me that shoulder problems are the most common thing they see. He also told me that it's silly to "stop" lifting altogether unless you identified that your routine is directly contributing to your problem.

The regular doc would just try to give me prednisone and pain pills, and that's not going to cure anything. Prednisone made me feel funny and weak even just 5 days on it, will never take again. And pain pills just mask the issue. I'd get it checked out buddy.

I was going to ask, you being a N2BM REP why you dont you Skeletal Balm. My friend uses it from time to time and he says it works. I tried it once but didnt do a hole lot for me as I get a lot of cracking in my knees and elbow and wrists. I to have early signs of arthritis, its in my family. I did hurt my shoulder once and it hurt for like a week but he didnt have any for me to try and the pain went away before I could get any.
Glad you didnt have to have a date with the knife. surgeries s*ck

I had shoulder surgery done this time last year and am glad i did. Had a Bankart Lesion which is a labrum tear from the bone. Had that reattached as well as my shoulder capsule pleated and tightend from being so loose after multiple dislocations. Several months recovery at least. Anyways, glad to hear its nothing serious, though painful nonetheless. Good luck.

My shoulder clicks when I do db bench presses. My doc did a bunch of tests but couldn't find anything wrong though, so I just deal with it. If the gym is really quiet, my friend can hear it when he spots me.

Well I never said I don't use S.B... But only sometimes before bed when I have some discomfort, I will use it instead of let's say ibuprofen or something. I'm still learning a lot about topical supplements and can say that fish oil has by far worked the best for me... More than cissus, more than flex, but I use flex because of the msm, chondroiton, hylauronic acid combination.. And I feel it takes a while to work.. So when I get really achy I rub on some skeletal balm. I don't want to use it every day as I fear that it's possible my tolerance would go up? Im not sure like I said I save it for when I just can't stand the discomfort.

And yeah trust me not only was I not looking forward to an arthroscopy (sp?) but I didn't want to shell out the dough for something like that. Dont want it on my medical record either. Im sure people can relate to all of those things.
