  1. Cell Phones and the Gym

Hey fellas. When I go to the gym I keep my phone in the car. I don't want to talk to people in the gym let alone someone on the phone, but it seemed that everyone around was talking or texting. Just wanted to get everyones opinion whether they think phones should be kept in the car or in your pocket.

  2. I keep my phone in my pocket because it is my MP3 player. Plus, if something were to happen and I need to be contacted it's there. Plus during cardio I can watch a movie or something to keep my mind off the bike and let time pass.

I've let myself slip and taken a call/texted someone while lifting, but it's few and far between.

  3. I send the occasional text between sets. I dont see why anyone having a phone in the gym will interfere with your workout so who cares?

  4. I was using my phone as a stop watch when I was doing OVT training for timing sets, making measurements, and clocking stuff...and an occasional text if it is from a lady, otherwise ignore it.

    x2.

I also used to text while doing cardio but ever since I switched to HIIT that hasn't been an option lol.

  6. I bring it in and leave it in my bag. I check it every now and than but sometimes use it for a stop watch if I cant see a clock. Ill text if I have a message received but will never make or answer a phone call, unless its my mom.

Cell stays in the car. I don't even like having a workout partner. I rid myself of anything that can cause me to lose focus. I'm in the gym for myself, the rest of the world gets left behind.

  9. I log my workouts using an app in my Iphone which is handy and I use the MP3 player in my Iphone while I work out.

I've been guilty of talking on the phone at the gym before but no so much in recent times, but I don't hold any equipment while I do so, I'll wander out of the weights section when this happens.

It's people who insist "I'm still using" a squat rack or something while talking on the phone or to someone else at the gym that I want to give a barbell enema to. That definitely ****s me.

  10. Cell on vibrate, and is left behind in my locker.

  11. I don't have an issue with those who use the cell phone as long as they're not hogging any equipment. I carry it with me because I can be called to work OT and I have to let them know ASAP if I'll be available and I love OT pay.

  12. What drives me crazy is people working out with a bluetooth in there ear.

  13. I leave mine in the car unless I'm expecting a call, which is very rare. In the gym it's just me, my mp3 player, and the weights. I don't have a problem with other people having theirs though, doesn't bother me unless it causes them to physically get in my way.

  14. i do not have a cell phone.i do not understand who all these guys need to talk to. or what they have to say.chick sit there and talk on phone men do not. if i see a guy talk on a phone for more then 2 min. i think what a little bitch.what the point in talking to a chick on the phone if you can not see their tits. and if your talking to your buddy on the phone for 10 min thats kinda gay

  15. keep the phones in the car, but i originally started to going to the gym to release stress, so it gave me an opportunity to get away from everyone and everything in life, now i only bring the phone in the gym if i'm expecting a call when i might have to cut the gym short that day

  16. It's not the fact of a person just having the cell phone on them that "bothers" me. It's these guys that bring the phone and leave it on full blast ring, why'll im in the middle of a set I don't want to hear the fu***ng Beatles blairing next to me. And if that's not bad enough the guys that sit their and have full blown conversations. I'm in the gym to do one thing, lift. That's my time to get away from all the other bullsh** this world has to offer.

Spoken like a true yank. I feel ya on the loud ass ringtones though.

  18. I keep it im my backpack which i carry around the gym. If it rings which it hardly does i check and see whos calling and go from there. texts can wait. i have 2 kids so as a parent you kind of need the phone around for emergencies and family stuff, other than that its not used and yes i keep it on vibrate. i just check it every 10 minutes or so.

Also because the iphone plays my music, it is always in the gym with me, headphones in, no phone calls or text.

ill send a text inbetween sets to let aq buddy know what i just lifted, or answer a text if in between sets

i dont like whn people talk on the fone in the gym, texting whatever as long as it doesnt conflict with me gettin onto equipt

  21. Or guys playing music real loud through a speaker on there phone while there working out.

  22. I keep my cell in my bag which is on the gym floor. I keep my belt, shoulder straps, post wo shake, and car keys in my bag also. My phone is an mp3
player, so I connect my rocketfish bluetooth stereo headset to the phone
and I listen to my own music, not the gay music the gay gym owner wants
to play. And if I get a text or phone call, I can press a button on the headset
and answer the call or not. I never answer the call though unless it's the little misses. Anyway, I highly suggest this headset, it sounds incredible, there
are no wires attached to your body, they are comfortable, the battery lasts
    forever, and they're inexpensive.

  23. I can understand if you are a parent, by all means keep your phone on you incase, but at least silence it. The thing that bugs me are the guys that get on a machine and end up using it for about 30 min, because in between each set they have to call or text some chick and let her know how much weight he's lifting at the gym. Get a life.

  24. Cell phone.......not allowed in gym. lol

Its the only time it is out of my sight.

I use iFitness. For two bucks you can't go wrong, and they are always updating it. You can build your own workouts, if there is a specific exercise you do that isn't in the app you can create it yourself, update your logs to email and it has an inbuilt graphing tool. Can't recommend it enough.

  26. Talking and texting on the phone should be left out of the gym. There's a time and place for everything. If i'm waiting to use something it better not be for a conversation. Ilift heavy and don't need b.s distractions. I know they pay every month too but, I have a limited amount of time and i want to get my moneys worth. If you're not serious- GO HOME and come back when you are. There's a reason your either scrawny or fat. get serious or go home. LOSERS

haha ok... how is the fact that I shoot off a txt message in my 45 second downtime between sets disturbing your workout.

  28. I don't see cell phones in most instances as a distraction that hinders my workout. I have very rarely seen them used in a way by others what hurts my workout.

I give some people some slack. If I have to wait an extra minute to use the squat rack because someone is checking their phone, I chalk it up as karma for the times I take the squat rack for 45 minutes at a time during a leg workout.

I just imagine a thread somewhere, made by some gym newbies that reads "I am tired of people taking up the rack to do squats for 45 minutes. Then I used my cell phone and the same guy gave me a dirty look. WTF"

Hell yeah! i love that app. It's not the sharpest looking one out there but it is very versatile. My iPhone is strapped to my arm for w/o logging and music and I have a sony bluetooth stereo headset paired with it. I like the b/t simply because cords get in the way especially for things like rows and squats. Just pisses me off. No calls or texts though. Better things to do.

  31. "haha ok... how is the fact that I shoot off a txt message in my 45 second downtime between sets disturbing your workout"

45 seconds isn't disturbing to me, But it shows your mind is elsewhere and not focused on what your doing. Every serious bodybuilding video I've ever seen shows the lifter focused on his next set, not whats going on outside of the gym. What irritates me is waiting to use equipment while some lame plays on his/her phone. I don't have all the time in the world to train. 45 seconds not a big deal.

  32. Maybe ask if you can work in a set or two? I personally never have a problem with someone working in if they ask nicely. If they're rude though they're more likely to get thrown over the balcony.

  33. I usually train with someone so takin calls or texts wouldnt go down well , i always usuallyleave it in the locker. I agree it can hinder focus in the gym.

  34. There was a girl who took pics in the locker room at my gym and forwarded them to some of the guys. no problem with her cell phone.

LOL. she is more then welcomed to have her cell phone near me anytime she wants.

  36. You pay for your gym membership

You pay for your cellular bill

    It's none of my business

If someone is wasting time on a piece of equipment while on the cell phone I ask them what do they have left? Usually they get what I am saying and they move on...in both of my gyms though, there are rules that If you have a phone call, move to the back or near the front door...it's never a problem at either gym that I attend.

  37. My phone is my MP3 player and I'm work out during work hours so I HAVE to be reachable at all times. I just put it on vibrate.

  38. I sometimes keep the cell in my pocket just in case an emergency occurs. Otherwise, I'll text certain people to let them know I won't be near my phone because I'm at the gym.

Mother****ers talking and texting while taking up space at the gym is one of my biggest pet peeves. I want to shove their freaking cell phones up their asses. What the hell are they working, their mouth muscles? Seriously. I keep my phone in my purse, locked in the trunk. Gym is my special time. I can't even talk while I'm working out. My boyfriend can't even get near me because he knows how bad my bitch mode is. He says I got B!TCH stamped on my forehead.
