Well, i usually don't take hurricane threats too serious until a few days before projected landfall, however this one has the potential to make landfall right over the tampa bay area. After 2004 i think most of us down here have had enough for a VERY long time.

Being in the medical field, working in and around the hurricane dates is a nightmare. Lets hope this thing misses us completely, or at least significantly weakens before it gets here. That's the thing with hurricanes though, they're unpredictable at best.

I've only been through one hurricane so far, the only reason they bother me is because even though the steel curtains are over the sliding glass doors, that only takes care of flying debris, and it seemed like wind force could shatter the glass itself. In my house this sucks, one of the living room walls is taken up almost entirely by 4 adjoining sliding glass windows.

Where do you live? Florida?

I hear you though. Making your house hurricane proof (or as much as you can) is a pain in the butt. I just moved into a new home, and i already have to start thinking about how i would handle the situation if it arises.
 
looking at this storm (which is still far from a hurricane), right now its only at 45 mph sustained winds... passing over cuba will either sustain the storm or weaken it, but the probability of it strengthening is nil. at most, my prediction is landfall with 60-70mph winds.... still something to prepare for.. but ive slept through worse storms

also, the storm has a very weak structure, which makes it more a series of thunderstorms then a tight knitted hurricane (ie andrew..small, tight, fierce).

im going to do what i can to get my shutters prepped bc ill be out of town from tues-friday of next week (if the weather lets the plane off the ground)... worst part is that the last owner of my place did a DIY shutter project and 3/4 of the panels got stolen a while back bc a realtor left the garage open.

hoping for the best... still prep.. get that extra water

ill be in the garage the rest of the night attempting to get the generator back into working condition bc my gf might have to ride this one out alone :(

storm panels are great for small storms but an appetizer for a cat 5.

I agree dave, but you never know with these things. I just pray it stays out at sea. :D

Well......the wife is sending me to the food store for supplies. I really don't think this will be a big deal for us, however i've grown to accept the unexpected down here. :lol:
 
F*ck, man, I live in South Florida. The good news is I'm done with the shutter bullsh*t. I got enough of that those three years in a row of whatever the hell crazy hurricane streak that was. The new apartment I just moved into has those nifty huricane-proof windows. Holla'. :D

Yeah, it looks like my hometown of tampa could be screwed with this one. That path looks quite similar to hurricane "Charley" in 2004. I was over in daytona beach for that one. Wild stuff man....
 
good luck down there, it looks like a might get a touch of it friday here is Pa. by then it will be a light breeze it seems
 
I dunno, i'm with dave, not really understanding why they project any sort of speed up after hitting cuba. doesn't fit the pattern really, and the gulf is cooler than normal. I suppose the next day or two will tell. going to be a sucky week regardless
 
I'm up near Pensacola/Destin area. I'm looking forward to some nice thunderstorms, but definitely don't want to be strongly affected by it.

I looooove thunderstorms.

I go to bed and its going to be tampa or the panhandle. I wake up to find its coming right for me now. Fay...that stupid c*nt.
 
If anyone needs storm panels, home depot has a few pallets at each store for MAD CHEAP. Instead of $50 per panel for a 13"x86", they had the same panel for $20.

I had to get panels for about 4 windows and 4 sliding doors... not going to get them up for this storm, but at least im getting ready for the next one. There goes $1200 :aargh::aargh::aargh:
 
wow.... its 10am here... it looks like its 9pm... its dark as night. we got a pretty decent cell about to beat us up for a little.

Yeah i saw that this b*tch fay is heading the Ft. Myers way. That could change at anytime though.

My hospital is of course on emergency status and will probably put the emergency plan into effect. This means shifts are called in early to sleep in the hospital and rotate coverage.

Lucky for me, i'm techniquely still on orientation, so i get to ride it out at home. :D Hurricane Party, Woot, Woot!!

I've got my main shutters locked down but I'm leaving the smaller windows open that I can't reach without help, I'll probably be fine, right?

I didnt put up a single shutter. Its going to take me 4 days just to sort out the past owner's mess and get the new ones up. I wouldnt worry about it. Im not sure how long youve lived here, but ive been here 20 years and never had shutters on a house...never seen any damage...even from direct hits from storms

Id be surprised if us boys on the east coast see winds greater than 40mph...probably be just a lot of rain and Tstorms
least it better be this way or my flight will be canceled tomorrow morning :toilet:

I think you'll be fine. I haven't even secured much myself. I really don't have any significant glass in need to protect though based on how my home is set up.

The only thing i do worry about is the flooding. That where i'm at is very much a possibility.
 
I didn't put any shutters up. I went through Wilma and this thing is a pimple compared to that fat b1tch.
