That guy is screwed. His name is out in public. He's lucky he didn't cost Boston, New York, or Philly 'cause those fans would have beaten his ass on the spot. I don't think he singlehandedly cost the Cubs the game, the Cubbies have to be responsible for their choke job.

Truthfully, I would have done the same thing. You ever been hit with a high speed baseball? Hurts like a bitch. Not only would I have screwed up the game by catchin the ball but I probably would have decked the player for jumpin to close to my face.
But im from Miami so that could explain both (fucking up the game and fighting the outfielder) :D

Go Marlins!

cmon guys. every single one of us would have done the same thing in his shoes. You telling me, a ball coming towards you, no idea that Alou was right there (esp. in the heat of the moment), that you werent going to reach up and try to catch a ball??? Thats one reason why people go to the games. Its a right as a fan. Remember, he didnt break any rule. Maybe an unwritten rule but the ball was out of play and he had all the right to do it. I feel horrible for the dude (esp. with the cubbies losing game 7). I promise you, he needs to move out of Chicago to live a normal life. I ask one dude here or anywhere at that stadium to come forth if they would have thought "hey..... a ball is coming right at me, but i should just stay in my seat, and not attempt catching it since my hometown player is trying to catch it for an out." Cmon, in the heat of the moment, every freakin' human being would have done the same thing.

I agree it was a heat of the moment kinda thing Sage, but he shold be paying a little more attention. It's not his fault the Cubs blew it though 'cause Alex Gonzalez should have made that double play and the inning would be over. He's real lucky he didn't cost the Phillies though, they have some rabid-ass fans.

BTW, you gotta love how everyone knows his name and face in Chicago by now. Hey, Jeb Bush did offer him a beach-side condo in Pompano Beach for 3 months though, I'd take it if I were him. Plastic surgery and a name change would help as well :D

I'm a cubbies fan, and I can 100% guarantee you, if the marlins knocked one out, I wouldn't give two shits about catching it. I'd deck the first person going for it if there was even the slightest, most minute chance of the ball being caught, and considering how close to the edge it was, I would have known a catch was a possibility, even if only 1 in a million, thats enough for me. Had that been me standing next to the guy, I would tackled his a$$ and beaten him senseless for WANTING a Marlin's fly ball. And don't say we all would have, a buddy of mine was sitting two rows back and when his buddies went to run up and try to catch it he tripped 'em and kept them from going for it. He was also one of the first guys chucking his beer bottle at the clown. .... but on another note, I don't blame that guy for ruining the game, the cubs did a good job of that on their own.

I've watched replay after replay of that catch and EVERYBODY except for maybe one or two people anywhere in the vicinity of that kid was reaching for that ball...the kid didn't even get the ball...I keep calling him a kid even though he's like 26...lol...If it was homerun ya you may have time to think hey the outfielder has a chance at it and leave it alone....MAYBE....but a foul ball a good 1-2ft over the 3rd base wall?? Everybody here would have gone after it....and he didn't break any rules or lose that game for the Cubs....and If I would've seen your dumbass friends throwing bottles at a scrawny 15yr old looking scared shitless guy I would have beat their asses right there...that's totally uncalled for..I can see maybe booing or heckling him...but come on...

Nope, he just bobbled it a plenty.

Do me a favor, if you've seen the replay so many times, and go look at that wonderful first picture in the first message of this thread. The ball hasn't even crossed the edge, and was very obviously within the realm of possibility that it could be caught. To be uncatchable, in my mind and most die-hard fans minds, the ball would have to be considerably closer to the first row benches. If he has to lean even slightly to get near the ball for the first bop, then I, and the 336 other people polled at my college so far, would *not* have gone after a MARLIN's ball. A cubbies ball would be entirely different. But most true cubs fans wouldn't want a marlin ball for any reason other than a) burning, b) pegging a marlin with, or c) maybe selling on ebay :D

Everybody here would have gone after it....and he didn't break any rules or lose that game for the Cubs....
Once again, don't incorporate me, or the 9 other guys on this board I've brought over into this broad sweeping statement. I also stated I do not blame that guy for ruining the game, the Cubs did that to themselves. I think he made a great statement of apology, and feel pity for the fact that he still regularly has police protection around his properity. I certainly hope the radio interview I heard was a fake, as he sounded like a very depressed/distraught individual.

and If I would've seen your dumbass friends throwing bottles at a scrawny 15yr old looking scared shitless guy I would have beat their asses right there...that's totally uncalled for..I can see maybe booing or heckling him...but come on...
I believe I stated my friends were some of the first... hardly the last, why do you think he was escorted out? Feel free to stand up to the entire stadium. Alou woulda pegged him right then and there if he had something to throw. There were enough beer cans and bottles around his seat at the end, someone could easily have bought a new car from recycling 'em :) Lets not get into this childish detour though, not worth the potential RSI of typing it out.

PS: Sorry about the quality of that first post, was in a pissy mood and that was by far the poorest post I've ever presented.

Its only a game. That dude still lives with his parents, let him have the goddamn ball already. Sure it sucks that they lost, but when they go back to their multimillion dollar homes to relax after this is all over, Im sure that 80" flat screen TV and hometheater system that cost more than most of us make in a year will make them feel much better.

I mean, if the guy got in the way of some incredible scientific experiement that could result in the advancement of our pathetic species, then hell yeah, beat his ass.

But its only baseball, and the Cubs lose all the time, right? What about that black cat that ran out on the field a few years back? Did the 'fans' beat the cat to show their frustration? Naw, because that's animal cruelty. But some dumbass fan does what any dumbass fan would do when a ball come right at him, and he gets chastised by the media, the team, and every Cubs fan across the country. Pathetic.

That's what I'm talking about. BTW, I bet you the only reason this isn't an Olympic sport is because we'd kick the **** out of the rest of the world even with college teams. Sorry folks, no other sport has the emotional highs and lows of football. Football also gives most teams a chance to be competitive unlike baseball. We also don't have a 7 game series in football to decide championships, 1 game, 1 shot, there's no tomorrow
