Pain in legs

For the past 2 years I have been making leg work my number one priority in training, " For years I neglected them". My legs, and glutes are usually sore for a day after my leg day. For some reason this week I could hardly move, they were that sore. I worked them on tuesday and this morning they are still insanly sore. I understand DOMS is a good thing but is this normal to have such intense DOMS especially since this is not a workout comming back from a few weeks off?

I get this after a few really good training sessions. One week I'm sore in the legs a day or two after, next week I'm sore for a whole week after.

Among tons of other things, I could see varying stress levels and diet change playing a huge role in slowed neural adaptation, causing unsual DOMS.
