Slam Dunking It

Hey everyone, this is a basketball training question..

I'm 6'4" and 255lbs, mostly muscle, but definitely not in the "under 10% bf club". My jeans are 34x34 to give you some idea. I can touch the rim from a straight up jump so that my finger slap it, but not enough to grab the rim to hold on. Problem is, I have bad knees and my ankles arn't that strong either. They usually get really sore after playing a few hours so I take some Alieve to help with the joint inflammation. What exercise or type of training can I do to increase my vertical jump? Any other advice of any kind? Should I look into plyometrics?

Thanks alot.
